APC BE325 SURGE PROTECTOR + BATTERY BACK-UP (APNBE325) UPS System Questions & Answers
Device is making a whistling sound or humming
Is the unit running on battery power? A hum is normal when the inverter is running.
if it is CONSTANTLY making a humming noise, it is possible the unit is failing. Check your battery inside the unit, make sure it does not look swollen at all. If it is, you know the unit is failing and overcharging the battery. If it is not, pull the power cable from the outlet and see if it provides back up power and then plug it back in.
If the connected equipment stays on line, then the unit is working fine however I would consider buying a replacement UPS in the near future, a constant hum all the time is a bad sign.
After a four day power
It is probably a bad battery. They usually don't last much longer than 2-3 years. You could try replacing the battery, but I would suggest just replacing the whole UPS with a new model.
I have an APC 500
Yes, you are right : the unit performs a self test to check the battery integrity every 14 days and at start up. If the battery fails the self test, the unit will make a constant beep with flashing Green light. You must replace the battery
Yes, you can use the protector like that - it will provide some surge protection even without a battery connected, you just lose the backup time. Just don't use it like that for a long time - without the battery the internal converters will work harder to keep the voltage clean.
Donno how to use
Hi,
Surge protector, minimizes voltage spikes or burst that could damage your electronics. You may not see it doing anything but it does. It clips those voltages to the right rating befrore letting them in to your system.
I hope this helps.
