your cartridge is not in right take out put back in plug it back in port.

The Lexmark X7170 software might have corrupted during the process. You may need to uninstall software completely. You may refer to this article on How to Uninstall Lexmark Printers. Reboot your computer when prompted. To reinstall, visit the Lexmark website at http://bit.ly/fWPweq to download the driver for free. Select your operating system to download the driver. Check to see if the installed cartridge is the correct one for the printer. If the cartridge is the proper part number, remove the ink cartridge and make sure all the packaging tape has been removed from the copper circuitry strip on the backside of the cartridge. Reinsert the cartridge and try printing again.

If the error continues, remove the cartridge again and clean the copper circuitry strip on the backside of the cartridge, and the contacts inside the printer, by following the instructions below:

1. Use a clean, dry, soft, lint-free cloth. Locate the copper-colored circuitry strip on the back of the cartridge.

2. Wipe the copper-colored strip with the dry cloth. Use an upward motion, from the nozzle end to the top of the cartridge. Do not wipe the nozzle end of the cartridge or touch the nozzle plate. Wipe the contacts only once.

3. To clean the printer contacts, carefully look for fibers or contamination on the electrical contacts inside the carriage assembly, but do not wipe the printer contacts with any object. The contacts in the printer can be damaged if too much pressure is applied during a wiping process. Try to remove any visible attached debris within the carriage assembly by gently pulling the debris off with your fingers. If the carriage contacts show noticeable damage, contact the Customer Care Center listed in the printer's User's Guide.

Reinsert the cartridge and try printing again. If the error continues, the cartridge may need to be replaced.

click the blue download. You should be able to scan , copy and print with those drivers, apparently the fax facility is not included.

Only on the disk that came with the printer. If you no longer have the disk then your only option is to order a replacement directly at HP.

This error is related to bad cartridge or damaged cartridge, first of all, remove all the cartridges, clean the copper contacts with a soft cloth dampen with alcohol/spirit/acetone. Also clean the contacts on the printer as well. It's also important to find out the culprit, only one of the cartridges must be causing the problem, so install the cartridge one by one and find out which one shows up the error message when installed, if possible, replace the defective cartridge if cleaning didn't help.

Hi

This error can be removed by basic troubleshooting steps. You'll need to turn off the printer and unplug it. After unplugging wait for atleast 2 mins before plugging it back again.

Now restart and check whether the error is still there or not. If its still there then check for the printer cartridges, remove them from carriage and put them back again.

Now restart it again as mentioned above.

Nice job on trying different ways to resolve the problem - turning off/on the printer, removing power source, reseating the cartridges and even changing the cartridge with a genuine Lexmark cartridge. You pretty much did the necessary. Genuine Lexmark cartridges shouldn't cause you that much trouble. I strongly suggest you contact Lexmark technical support to further investigate the problem.
