On your wireless router it will have reset button. There is a very small button on the back of your router get a pen and click on it and hold for 10 seconds and it will reset your router. Linksys IP number is 192.168.1.1 type this in the address bar at the very top of your computer screen then hit enter. A window will appear, in the password section type (admin) and it should let you in. If you can`t access it wireless connect a ethernet cable to one of the 1 - 4 ports and to your pc.Here is a youtube video how you reset it:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zOp-zkn4JsYMore here:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RAXKapuKjlQ&feature=relatedhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r8OOFNTMMeE&feature=relatedHope tis will help you

Do I have to call internet co. to use?

If you are going to use this as your modem to bring in the signal from ther internet company so you can connect to the internet, you will need to contact the internet company to make sure that you have the modem configured correctly so the signal can be accepted. The internet company can also give you information about how to set up your computers properly on your network.

I hope that this answer was helpful. If you have any other questions, please let me know.

The ethernet light on my modem turned off despite

Seems like your computer ethernet adapter (network card) is not working correctly/not installed or mis-configured. Open Network Connection and look for Local Area Connection:
* Does it state Disable underneath it? -> Right-click on it and choose Enable.

* Doesn't exist -> Open Device Manager and look for Network Adapters. Is it there? Do you see any yellow question mark or exclamation mark? If so, reinstall the network card driver! If you don't see any of this then the network card is either not connected firmly to the motherboard or it's defective. Connect it firmly (after shutting off the computer and disconnecting the power cord!) or replace it with another network card!

* Exists and enabled -> Right-click on it and choose Properties. Click Configure, go to Advanced. On Media Type, make sure it's set to Hardware Default or AutoSelect.

Good luck!
Cheers,
Pelu.

Weak signal from cable modem

if you rent the modem ask for a swap. If you own it ask for a rental roughly 3$ a month. This will give you a way to compare speeds. Have cable company come out and check signal of cable at modem first. The signal should be between +10db to -5db. I wouldn't recomend anything outside that and preffer a +5db range signal. Causes could be damaged line,to many splits to modem etc. You could use a 1000Mhz amp usually 15db's don't use a 900Mhz radio shack or any thing under 1000Mhz for data (internet). 900Mhz is ok for video but I have no desire to own one. Yes modems do **** out in first use or after 5-10 years. Try to use power conditioners or at least a surge protector for anything with a circuit board. Good luck.

The send light blinks alot

Well if it works perfect and has no problems then no you don't need a new modem. if it is not doing so well and is messing up a lot then yes i would look into one, Other then that sounds normal for a router or ethernet to be active or none active.

You do got random programs on your pc that do connect to internet while not around or not even using or browsen the net.
