Kenmore range oven will not hold temperature

I have a Kenmore gas range that won't hold temperature. When I turn it on, it comes up to set temp, but if the oven is used for more 10 minutes to bake a batch of cookies then it loses temp. Even pizza takes nearly 45 minutes to cook! I have temporarily remedied this by babysitting the oven and turning it off every 10-15 minutes to reset it. When it is on for a longer period of time you can hear the gas come on. The gas sounds like some rhythmic pulsating sh-sh-shh, sh-sh-shh. Could this be a temperature sensor? It seemed to have started after one of the first times I used the self-cleaning feature.

You're glow bar ignitor is on its way out. I had this exact problem and swapped mine out with its identical sibling that runs the broiler element. Problem fixed.

There is no way to light the oven manually. The gas valve will not open until the oven ignitor draws enough current. But replacing the ignitor will fix ya up.

No the insulation must be replaced . the insulation makes the oven cycle on and off less frequently and also keeps the exposed metal surfaces cooler.

WHITE FILM INSIDE OVEN

My 86 year old mother had a larges casarole splatter all over the inside of the oven. She used the sel-cleaning unit. Now there is a white like film which seems to be baked inside. I've tried oven cleaner and brillo pads at they won't even come close to touching it. Any clue?

your mom may have used a non-self cleaning cleaner to try and clean this oven in the past. you wont have much luck getting rid of the stain but using cleaners like easy-off or mr muscle may help you reduce the staining.
it could also be that an element has shorted out and "burned" the surface of the oven. if the oven doesnt heat properly then check the elements for a rough or burnt out area. that does happen but its probably just going to be stained as it sounds like you have tried to do the cleaning.
p.s. i like mr muscle better then easy-off.

Oven will not light but smell gas

I have a tappen gas stove, and when I turn on the oven to bake I smell gas and my oven will not light. I see the red glow like it's trying to light but nothing is happening. What do I do?

i think you probably have a weak ignitor. does the ignitor glow orange?
if it does, or i should say when it does, just tap lightly on the gas valve and see if that causes the gas to flow into the burner and then light.
you can use the handle of a screwdriver to tap with and it wont need to much force.
if this does work, then just replace the ignitor. when they get weak they will glow, but wont draw enough current thru the gas valve to allow it to open. your valve does get voltage but it opens when enough current draw opens the bi-metal portion of the valve to allow gas to flow.

the alarm clock keeps beeping even in the clock function. this questions was answered before. how do i disarm it? The clock keeps beeping (at first I thought it was the alarm) but its softer than the alarm. I've tried to put the knob in the middle so that it will stop (temporarily) is there a way to stop it?

Takes about 15 minutes to fix. You will need a philips head screwdriver, pair of scissors and a butter knife. What you're going to do is cut the wire to the beeper. Your clock will still function.

Start by removing the glass faceplate that encloses your clock. By removing the 2 screws on either side of the metal housing, you can remove the faceplate (you'll have to remove the clock's pushbuttons, but that isn't hard, either. I used some spring-loaded pliers to get a good purchase, then pulled straight back. Oh yeah. You need pliers, too. Don't worry, you won't break the buttons; they'll snap out and push back in, later). Use the butter-knife to carefully work the glass out of the metal frame. The actual clock is secured by a couple more screws, which are easily removed, once you've removed the abovementioned faceplate.
[The clock, btw, is made by Fridgidaire (part # AP2125434 ), in case you want to replace it. Costs more than $130(!)]
If you haven't already unplugged the stove, now is a good time. Do not touch the two metal connectors of the two most prominent wires on the back of the clock, when the unit is plugged in! Yes, it's the voice of experience, talking...
You will notice, when you're looking at the back of the clock unit, a small metal disc, enclosed in plastic. If you plug in the stove, and listen, you should hear the beeping coming from this area. There is a medium-sized hole in the middle of the plastic housing, allowing access to the metal disc. There are two very small wires, red and black, leading into the housing and attached to the disc in two places. One wire is attached to essentially the center part of the disc. The other wire (in my case, the black wire) is attached rather toward the outer edge of the metal disc. The outer edge is even a slightly different color, so you can identify the two parts. In my case, the sound was emitting from the outer edge, as opposed to the center portion of the disc. If you press a Q-tip against the center portion of the disc (thru the hole in the plastic housing), and the beeping continues, unchanged, the sound is probably coming from the outer edge. You can check by bending the Q-tip, and working the tip over to the edge of the metal disc--by applying pressure, you should hear the sound change, slightly.
Unplug the unit, and cut the wire that corresponds to the part of the disc the sound is coming from--that should solve the problem!

where is the pilot light on a tappan millennia

where is the pilot light on a tappan millennia

If the model number you have this listed under is correct, there is no pilot light. In fact, MOST modern appliances that use gas ignition (including dryers) no longer uses a pilot. These appliances are now equipped with a burner assembly with an electric igniter. The following link explains igniters and how to access the them on a gas range:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r401858-replacing_oven_igniter_gas_range

If you are having problems with ignition, it may be a simple matter of a weak or bad igniter.

If the model number is not correct, please post back with the correct information so that I may assist you better. The model number should be located on a name plate around the oven door, or lower drawer opening. Some manufacturers place the model number on the back of the operator console.

If you have any questions, please let me know. I hope this is helpful to you.
