My harman kardon avr 120
Hi,
What we are doing, in this case is looking for a shorted out speaker system, or wiring to speakers, or cables or components that are connected to the receiver that have a short circuit. This is what I would do if I were called to your house to debug your sound system.
Follow this procedure and see what happens:
Disconnect one set of speakers at the back of the receiver and turn the power button on again. See if it stays on.
If not, remove the next speaker and keep repeating the test.
If it still stays off, disconnect all of the equipment connected to the unit, one piece at at time.
Somewhere along the line, the receiver may not shut down. If that is the case
identify the the offending cable(or component)and replace or service it.
I hope this solves it for you. If not your receiver will need professional servicing,
Best Regards,
Mark
What does it mean when
It means that you need to have both the remote control and the system checked. You may be able to check if the remote is functioning by aiming it at something else. I had a Sony Stereo which had a little LED lamp in the volume control knob which would flicker no matter which remote control I aimed at it....it was very handy for checking if any Remote suspected of being inoperative was transmitting anything !You can buy remote control testers, that have an LED that flickers if the remote is transmitting. It wont tell you if the codes from the remote are correct. You might also like to try checking local advertisements to see if someone has an identical unit to yours up for sale. You might get them to let you pop in and see if your remote is working...... for a beer or a small gift as a token of thanks.
Have a Harmon Kardon AVR
If the test tones work, the audio hardware is fine.
"Attachments"? You may have to re-visit the setup for them.
I have a harmon kardon
Check that the player's Dolby / DTS is enabled. Sometimes it is defaulted in the player to 2.0 / Stereo PCM. What model Samsung? Those Harman receivers are old favorites of mine...
How do I plug my cable TV into the receiver and
When we talk about cables in an environment that also includes "cable TV", digital and analog audio; and video we need to be VERY specific.
Therefore, I could be misinterpreting what you meant in the following.
I doubt the receiver is designed to BE your cable box so hooking the TV-source cable to the FM antenna jack on the receiver is probably a bad idea.
If you HAVE a cable or satellite box, treat it like any other audio/video source and run its BEST audio digitally to the AVR and its BEST video to the monitor or TV (*) where the BEST most-specialized electronics will have the first shot at each function. You could also run basic composite video from the AVR out to the Monitor for the AVR's internal setup purposes.
* Even if it means bypassing the AVR. HDMI or DVI, component, composite are the various video outputs in descending order of quality. The TV deserves the BEST video.
If you're using the red/white/yellow cables for analog audo and composite video then you are making a major compromise in the quality of both.
