I recently had a similar situation, mine got wet while it was turned on and would not turn off. Eventually it started flashing off and on and then went out all together. After that I tried leaving it in rice for a few days but it did not work. I know it's not a solution but I eventually had to just buy another one. The old one still doesn't work.
This machine dates back to 2007.
