Error 18
Check the following when you operate the camera to avoid applying pressure to the lens and surrounding area:
- Hold the camera so that your fingers do not touch the lens unit when you are shooting.
- Make sure the camera is off before you put it back in the case. Exercise caution to ensure that the camera does not accidentally power on while the camera is stored inside the case.
Focusing Difficulties
1. Typical problem subjects for autofocus
1) Very low-contrast subjects
2) Overlapping nearby and distant objects
3) Very bright subjects in the center
4) Subjects moving very fast
5) Subjects through glass
Focus on an object that is at the same distance as the desired subject, apply Focus Lock, and then recompose the picture. Or set the lens focus mode switch to (or), and focus manually.
(Manual focus is only possible with cameras providing this feature.)
2. Attempting to take pictures out of the camera's shooting distance:
When taking pictures out of the camera's shooting distance, the subject will be out of focus.
The shooting distance differs from each camera model. Please check the specifications of your camera in the instruction manual to determine the shooting distance.
How do I attach the wrist strap to the Canon PowerShot D30 camera
The wrist strap has a thin loop on one end. Thread this thin section (like threading a needle) through the strap hole. (It's on the left side of the camera. There are two openings with a bar over the top of the center of them at the bottom corner of the camera body.) Start threading from the middle of the body of the camera and push the strap towards the bottom of the unit. You may need to twist the loop to narrow it and keep it tight. Once you have this narrow loop through the camera, open up the loop and slide the thick material through the center of this thin loop. Pull the wrist strap until the thin loop tightens around the bar.
This is shown on page 12 of the D30 manual. The manual is available from Canon support on the Powershot page:

I hope this helps.

(Many lanyard straps for electronic gear work the same way. Threading the narrow section under that bar does require decent near point vision. People who are far-sighted may need to wear bifocals or ask someone younger to assist.)
LOST THE VOLUME ON VIDEO, HOW TO FIX?
Do you mean when playing video back on the camera? If so, when the video is playing, press on the top of the wheel, the part with the triangle pointing upwards (up-arrow). You should see the small volume level indicator get an increasing number of bars and the volume will increase.
