Canon A75, loses image completely-maybe image sensor?

I've had my A75 for a little over a year. I love this little camera and have been through thick and thin through it. In the last few weeks, I'm not sure what is causing it but I will get this: http://www.steadief.com/temp/hike/IMG_6842_9_1.JPG A few minutes before the pictures were great. A little while later they are great. I've tried: -Changing the batteries. -Removing and re-inserting the CF card. -Changing the setting selector on top of the camera to every other setting. -Depressing the shutter to make the camera autofocus -Using manual focus (even though you can't see anything) -Pointing it into bright light -Pointing it into the dark I'm stumped. It appears if I let the camera sit for a while, it then works again. Any suggestions are welcomed. Thanks in advance.

Canon digital camera recall for defective image sensor

Readers should be aware that Canon (and possibly other camera manufacturers) have recently announced various recalls (with free repairs and prepaid shipping) for CCD problems. Even if your camera is several years old and not in warranty, you might be entitled to a free repair. If you Canon camera has failed for any reason, or especially if it has image problems, check out the Canon website in your country. In the USA, go to the Canon USA website, select your camera model, and click on the "Service" link. Here is a direct link that worked in June 2006 (Enter it all on one line): http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=PgComSmModDisplayAct&keycode=2112&fcategoryid=221&modelid=9828 Or simply telephone Canon technical support (dial directory assistance) and ask about camera recalls. You'll need your make, model, and serial number.

From the Canon Website: Issue: The LCD/Electronic Viewfinder will not display an image. Solution: Special information regarding a blank or distorted screen on certain digital camera models Details: [ Hide ] Important Notice About Your Canon Product: It has recently come to our attention that the vendor-supplied CCD image sensors used in this Canon digital camera may cause the following malfunction: When the product is used in recording or playback mode, the LCD screen and/or electronic viewfinder may exhibit either a distorted image or no image at all. While reports of this malfunction have been rare in the United States, we have determined that it may occur if the product is exposed to hot and humid environments. Effective immediately, and regardless of warranty status, Canon will repair, free of charge, products exhibiting the above-mentioned malfunction if the malfunction is caused by the CCD image sensor. Canon will also cover the cost of shipping and handling in connection with this repair. canon powershot s21s problem

Can you help me fix my camera? Every time I take a picture the screen goes black and I need to turn it on and off again to take another.

I have the same problem with my S21S. A long time ago, I tried to find-out what size SD cards would work on this camera. Since there was NOTHING listed in the specifications, I tried a 4GB card. The camera simply would not recognise it, but worked fine when I returned the 1GB card to it. A few days ago, I popped-in a 2GB card to see if that would work. The camera seemed to accept it, and created a directory on it, but this is when my screen went blank. the only thing that is constantly present is a small hand symbol. The stored images can be displayed, and the menus work... I think its locked-up. Is there an "all reset" button, or sequence somewhere? TIA!

A large batch of potentially faulty CCD image sensors were installed on a large number of Canon cameras over the space of a few years. The sensors may go bad prematurely with time, especially if you live in humid areas. A big thumbs up to Canon in that they recognized this problem, and are willing to fix your camera for free if it is experiencing CCD problem symptoms, especially for the free shipping and handling both ways :-)

Please note that your camera must be experiencing these symptoms due to a faulty CCD, and not due to other problems. If the problem is due to your dropping the camera, you might be out of luck. Note that they're going to look for dings and dents. They also are not going to repair your camera just to change out the sensor. If your camera is working fine, they don't need to (and won't) fix it.

The list of problem digital still cameras include:
A40, A60, A70, A75, A80, A85, A95, A300, A310, S1 IS, S60, S200, S230, S330, S400, S410, S500, SD100, SD110 (A610 owners, continue to the bottom of this post)

Canon's advisory listing the program's details may be found at:
http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=PgComSmModDisplayAct&fcategoryid=225&modelid=13390&keycode=2112&id=29819

You will be directed to call 1-800-828-4040 for further assistance. Make sure you print out the above advisory and have it in hand when speaking to the customer service representative. State the problem you're experiencing with the camera. If for any reason it starts to sound like they want you to pay for shipping or repairs, MAKE SURE that you let them know that you are aware of the advisory for your camera, and quote the following paragraph from the advisory:

"Effective immediately, and regardless of warranty status, Canon will repair, free of charge, the products listed above exhibiting the above-mentioned malfunction if Canon determines that the malfunction is caused by the CCD image sensor. Canon will also cover the cost of shipping and handling in connection with this repair."

You should receive several emails from Canon. One includes a short repair evaluation form that you'll need to include with the camera, along with a free UPS shipping label that you'll print out and tape to the camera's shipping box. In addition to Canon's repair form, make sure you print out a copy of the advisory and include it in the package. Also include a short note stating that you're aware of the advisory, and that you're submitting the camera for free repair as per the advisory. Just drop the box off at any UPS drop off point.

If instead of the above you receive an email that infers that it's your responsibility to arrange shipping and/or pay for the repair, REPLY BACK IMMEDIATELY again quoting the above paragraph from the advisory, and also include the above link to the advisory in your email.

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.

NO memory card Problem - Powershot 550

Mine is a CANON powershot 550. 2years old. was working in a very good condition before few days. BUT now Am getting a error like "no memory card". i get it often while using my camera. sometimes it disappears by itself. i have tried removing the internal battery, tried lot of memory cards, tried all kinds of formats. all memory card work fine in card readers. left the camera with out batteries for more than 48hours. but no effect. once the error shows up, it does not accept any card. it just keeps showing the error. sometimes after showing the error it shuts off, and sometimes it remains ON. i doubt if some kind of disturbing plastic is stuck behind the contacts in the memory card receptor in the camera. but wanted to know if there is any FIX with out disassembling the camera.

More likely one of the spring contacts in the camera that connect to the SD card has become weak causing the problem.

Okey, this can be tricky, but it worked for me.

I have Canon Ixus 60 and Kingston SD 1gb memory card.
After loading set of images on my laptop and putting the card back in to camera, screen displayed "Card Locked!" message.

I did everything to check the common flaws, but still the same message occured.

Material needed:
1 paper clip

The socket for memory card has this tiny detector for sensoring if the card is locked or not (same side as the lock switch on the MC). For some reason it was sticking out from the side. So, little fiddling with paper clip to put the detector back in and another try to put the camera on, everything worked out just fine.
