Importing photos from Canon IXUS 40 to computer. It stops on the 9th picture & will not import any more !

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer. The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.

When you play the video back and get no sound are you doing this on your camera or on the computer? I have the same camera, and noticed that when I playback something I've recorded I don't have sound either, mind you I don't have static either. But once I've uploaded the video onto my pc the sound is there.

Very low battery life

I have the same camera. It sounds to me that there is a fault with the camera itself and not the battery. You might be better sending Canon an email and asking them. My battery lasts forever so I would think if you already purchased another battery you've eliminated that problem. It might be the contacts inside the camera that are not accepting the full charge. Does the camera battery on screen show that it's full after you've charged it? Maybe trying charging it overnight and then trying it out the next day.

When the camera is switched

Take the memory card out of your camera and look at it. SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

Press the FUNC/SET button. Use up/down to select "My Colors" (the palette icon, fifth from the top). Use left/right to select something other than "B/W" for black-and-white then press FUNC/SET.

When i turn on my camera it shuts off and shows

Hello

The problem is that the lens has become stuck in the barrel. There are some DIY solutions you could try, but the probability is that you will have to get it fixed by a professional.

Use these at own risk as it may further damage the camera.

Firstly , try connecting your ac adapter or usb cable.

Try holding the shutter button while switching on the camera.

Look at the lens , and if some of the lens 'circles' is misaligned or not concentric then try wiggling it (while holding camera lens down).

Try gently pushing or pulling the lens when it extends but this is risky as it may cause the lens barrel to slip out of its guidance system.

Another way to do this is to place the camera lens down on a hard surface and then power it up. Be sure to use a soft cloth or something similar as to not scratch your lens or casing. Let the lens push the camera up and down a few times and sometimes the little resistance provided by the camera is enough to get things going again.

Try hitting your camera near the lens on the body with the soft tissue on the palm of your hand.

Other than that , I would take the camera to a repair centre for a evaluation to see if it would cost more to repair than to replace the camera.

If it is still under warranty I would suggest you take it in before trying any of these steps and remove any off-brand batteries or accessories as some stores are really fussy about warranty repairs on camera's with non-brand accessories.

You can also have a look at THIS link.

Hope the advise is useful. please do not hesitate to let me know if you need any further assistance. Also, please be so kind to let me know if you found this helpful.

Regards
Andrea.

Make sure that you are using 2GB or less memory cards for your older camera. 4GB or higher SDHC will not work with an SD300. There are several possible causes for "memory card locked", "memory card error", or "no memory card". Some include trying to use of a 4GB SDHC card with an older camera made before SDHC format came out. Others include problems with the tiny slide switch on the side of the card, or the electrical contact switch internal to the camera. The problem may also arise from simple formatting problems if the card has never been formatted in the camera (note that this will also erase the card). Troubleshooting tips for this problem may be found at this link.

Camera shuts off after E18 error code

You have most likely dropped the camera or banged it against something while the lens was out. This situation causes the brass pinion gear to shear teeth off the plastic ring gear on the Inner Lens Housing. It may also cause the guide pins to jump their track. If this is the case the repair bill usually exceeds the value of the camera and you are probably better off selling it for parts on eBay and getting a new higher resolution camera.

Hi there,I was wondering if a 4GB SDHC card was

SD and SDHC cards fit the same slots, but many cameras won't work with the SDHC (high capacity) cards. SDHC is not backwards compatible. It is often difficult to find out the maximum capacity card that a camera will use, as today's memory cards are much larger that those available when the manual for the camera was written.
