I have the same problem and discovered that the right side of the screen had "spread". When I draw a line from the left to the right using Note Pad, the line ends up about 1/4 inch above the stylus. What I had to do is touch the stylus about 1/8th of an inch above the center of the digitizer target on the right side.

You find a fix to that problem, and the (Palm) world will beat a path to your door. HP, Palm's new owner, has attempted a fix for Win7, but Win8/8.1 may become the impossible hurdle. Good luck!

ok here is a possible solution for your palm Zire 31. Screen calibration may be failing because its alignment got corrupted. try taping not exactly where you should. tap just below or slightly to the left (right). you will get through that loop.

Are you upgrading from a previous Palm that synched using a serial cable? Even if not, you may have inadvertently set it up for the wrong interface. On your desktop computer, Right-Click on the Hot Sync icon in the system tray (next to the time) and verify that there is a checkmark next to Local Serial on top of the popup menu.Also, verify the HotSync app on your Palm. Local should be selected above the logo and cradle/cable should be selected below the logo.Double check your cables make sure they're connected properly, including the power for your Palm. Make sure the Palm is seated properly in the cradle and the Green light is on solid.

the screen needs calibration. below are the instruction on how to calibrate the screen. The Digitizer Preferences screen opens the digitizer calibration screen. This is the same screen that appears when you start your handheld for the first time. You can recalibrate your screen after a hard reset or if your digitizer drifts. You may need to repeat this process a few times until the calibration registers. To calibrate your handheld screen: 1. From the General Preferences list, select Digitizer. 2. Tap the targets as indicated on the screen as precisely as possible.
TIP You can also press Left, Right, Up, and Down on the navigator to highlight a Preferences screen name and then press Select on the navigator to open that Preferences screen.
