Many parents worry about their toddlers safety when transitioning them to a toddler bed. I would like to give you a few tips that will help ensure your childs safety while putting your minds at ease.
• Choose a bed that is low to the ground - this will not only make it easier for your child to get in and out of bed, but help minimize the risk of injury
• Install adjustable guardrails
• Carefully select bed location - keep your childs toddler bed away from hazards such as windows, doors, radiators and blind cords
• Ensure the bed is sturdy
• Consider placing something soft around the perimeter of the bed such as a quilt or a rug to cushion a potential fall
• Do not place the bed against a wall, your child could get trapped between the bed and wall; place the headboard against a wall and leave the other side free (with a guardrail)
• Wait until your child is at least 2 until you give them a pillow for their bed to avoid risk of suffocation
In case you wanted to know more about guardrails I have found a great article that explains why to use them and how to use them safely - http://www.parentingtoddlers.com/toddlerbedrails.html
For most of the toddler beds, the weight limit is around 50 pounds which means that the bed will eventually be useless due to the natural development of your kid.
I will post you a link to a site where you can purchase a toddler bed; however I strongly urge you to buy one in person, perhaps at a nearby department store. Simply put, it is crucial to see exactly what you are buying for your child. Walmart sells an excellent selection of toddler beds. It may be worth checking online first to find what you are looking for, calling a store location near you, and then going to see the bed in person.
