Sammi James broke FIXYA - Samsung SP0411N HDD (3.5" IDE 40GB) PC board replacement

Hi,

The firmware is upgradable on these devices but only within the same Rev Series. Your best bet is to source a board with the same Rev and similar production date.

Assuming the board is all that failed this should r troubles. Try http://stores.shop.ebay.ca/Effective-Electronics__W0QQ_armrsZ1 as they carry a wide variety of boards. if they don't have it try a general search on eBay. Don't use anything more than the Samsung model # for the search though as most sellers haven't a clue about Rev#'s. Once you find a few similar ones you can ask the sellers for specifics.

If you can't find the proper board or if you do and it fails to garner results let me know and include your location(Country, State and City) and I will refer you into a clean room facility.

HDD wih broken pin

You pretty much are (for lack of a better word) screwed, without all of the pins contacting the cable, it wont be recognized by the CPU. my best suggestion, is to take it to a data recovery shop, and see if they can recover any of the stuff on it. [WARNING] not the cheapest thing to do, but worth it if you have some valuable information on the drive.

Blue screen

It may caused by drive crash.Remove the hard drive and put it into an enclosure.Plug it into another computer as a slave.Copy your files on it.After that, perform a system restore to fix your operating system.
If it shows up in 'my computer' as a drive letter(like E: drive) but you can't access it,you can recover data on it with data recovery program to avoid losing your data.I have succeed to recover data from crashed hard drive with Tenorshare data recovery. It can recover data after deeply scanning your hard drive to look for lost data due to drives crash, physical damage, system sabotage, virus attack etc.You can get it here: http://www.any-data-recovery.com/product/datarecoveryprofessional.htm After you recover your data, you can format it to check out whether it can be fixed.

Hard disk is not detecting samsung

Make sure the power cable and IDE cable is plugged in properly then boot your computer up again. If it does not work, test it on another computer to see if the hard drive works at all.

SAMSUNG IDE HDD SP0411N (40GB)

Hi,

Three possible reasons:
1. Your IDE cable is defective or is not seated/plug in correctly. Try to replace or re-seat/re-insert;
2. The on-board disk management of the hard disk is corrupted/defective. There is no remedy except to replace the PCboard or the entire hard disk;
3. Your motherboard BIOS/CMOS needs to be flashed and/or something is wrong with the IDE interface.

Of the 3, # 1 is the most common.

Hope this be of help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

good luck and kind regards.

Can it be used as

Yes it can be used as an external hdd.

This is the only procedure i know and i hope you'll be satisfied.

Things You'll Need

Screwdriver

1

Locate and purchase an IDE to USB cable conversion kit. Insert the driver CD that came with the kit into your computer's CD drive. Follow the instructions on the installation prompt that will appear on your computer's screen to install the conversion cable driver software.

2

Power off the computer once the driver software has finished installing. Remove the power cable and all of the other cords from their ports on the back side of the computer.
3

Set the entire computer case on its side so that the left side panel is facing upwards. Check the back end of the case to determine if the side panel is locked with two case screws or only a metal latch. Disconnect the panel from the case either by removing the screws or by pulling upwards on the latch.
4
An IDE Cable

Pull the side panel off of the computer case and set it aside. Locate the drive that you want to connect with a USB cable. Remove the screws holding the drive into the drive bay. Disconnect one end of the IDE cable from the motherboard, but leave the other end connected to the back side of the drive itself.
5

Remove the drive from the drive bay with its connected IDE cable and set it outside of the computer case. Set the side panel back onto the case and re-attach the metal latch or case screws. Plug the cables back into the computer ports and power the computer back on.
6

Insert the end of the IDE cable that used to be connected to the motherboard into the IDE port on the conversion cable. Plug the male USB end at the other side of the conversion cable into any open USB port on your computer.

Have a nice day friend and i hope this would satisfy your needs.
