What is error code 651?

I have fixed mind through following steps, OS Windows 7. This works if you can still use cable internet, so that system can download the driver. In my case there was no wifi utility, no connections detecting, no bars IIII. Solution: Please note it is mostly to do with your network drivers, if you go to device manager under the network adapters, you will see network controller marked in yellow. Dont worry. To make your wifi connection work please complete the following steps: Goto: Device manager > trouble shooting ( column 3 , second last row ) Now under " Hardware and Sounds" heading go to configure a device. It will start trouble shooting automatically, and try to download and install the right network control driver. My system is using: Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller and after downloading the driver. I have now following installed. Realtek RTL8191 SE802.11 b/g/n Wifi Adapter ( this was missing ) Now when I go back to device manager I have both are functioning and after reboot I automatically connect to the wifi. So everything is fine. So my advice to all whatever make is your PC / OS , do go to device manager and try trouble shooting. For those who have found this solution helpful, please email me: manny.nlAThotmail.com Goodluck!

Where do I find a driver for Model # WUA 1340

There is no drivers required for using a router. All the routers communicate to the computer through an ethernet port. So only the ethernet port drivers for your computer has to be installed properly. there is no seperate drivers for routers.

Making an unsecure wireless network secure.

Yes - that's not too difficult. Look at the manual (if you don't have one, you can download it here). The DIR-300 has a Wireless Security Setup Wizard included and it makes the setup a breeze. Look at page 62 onwards. Some hints:
  1. The name of your wireless network (your SSID) should be something unique, so nobody can connect to it "accidentally". Use a name that does not reveal the name of your router!
  2. Choose WPA2-PSK (Pre-shared key) as your authentication model if possible. WEP is not secure at all, although better than nothing (but not much.) If you have Windows XP installed, you might need an update for your wireless adapter (you can get that here)
  3. Make the password as long and difficult to guess as possible. Mine looks like "Vo90los0!d?k0slkfh...". All you do is copy that key into a text document, save that document on a USB-stick and paste it from there, when your computer asks for it (see page 78).
  4. Do the configuration from a computer connected via a cable - not wireless!
  5. Don't forget to change the default password for the web based interface for your router. All wireless security is useless if someone can just log into your router and get the password or - even worse - change passwords and take over your router(see page 47).
If you also want to enable MAC address filtering, look here. (MAC address filtering means that you specifically allow certain wireless adapters to access your router. This is a good measure, but MAC addresses can be spoofed, so it can only be another step into the right direction.)

Allright...If you have any more questions, just come back here and leave a comment - I'm happy to help.

How to get pasward

According to the manual (http://www.dlink.com/products/default.aspx?pid=DI-514&tab=3) leave the password field blank and use the username: "admin" without the quotes.

This is the default username and password. Of course, change the password once you log in (since it has no password).

However, if this password doesn't work because it has been changed already, you can reset the router back to the default settings and password. Here's the details from the manual:

To hard-reset the D-Link Plus DI-514 to Factory Default Settings, please do
the following:
• Leave the device powered on, do not disconnect the power
• Press the reset button and hold (use a paper clip)
• Keep the button pressed about 10 seconds
• Release the button
The DI-514 will then automatically reboot itself.

Forgot my password 038-913213

I have a nice little router like this and I'm about convinced you have to disconnect the power then push the Orange button on the back for at least 3s while you plug in the power.

(you might need a paperclip to push the button which is almost inside the enclosure)

This should return your device to the factory default settings!

Forgot my password for TOT wireless

To perform a reset, please follow steps below:

Step 1 With the unit on, place a paper clip into the hole on the back on the unit labeled Reset.
Step 2 Hold paper clip down for 10 seconds and release.

Note: Do not repower unit during this procedure.

Step 3 The unit will reboot on its own. Once the WLAN light stops blinking, the unit is reset.

Resetting the router does not reset the firmware to an earlier version. It will change all settings back to factory defaults.

Note: The factory defaults username is admin, and there is no password.

If you have the European version of this router, this procedure may not work. Please consult the D-Link office near you. D-Link USA does not support the European version.

I cannot connect

Make the FixYa experience better for everyone by voting.

Hi,

My name is Ben and I'm your guru, i.e., mentor, an influential teacher or popular expert: a management guru. - origin from Sanskrit, 'weighty, grave' for today.

As you evaluate my advice and suggestions, there are a few things you must keep in mind:

• I did not diagnose your problem and am therefore only able to evaluate what you tell me. For example, if you ask me a fuse location, that doesn't mean that I can tell you the reason why the fuse blew.
• A thorough diagnostic approach involves the use of technical equipment, such as voltage meters. scanning equipment and other sophisticated devices.
• Lastly, fixing one problem can very easily reveal a problem with something that you might consider unrelated. If that happens, you might want to view me as being incompetent but I must rely on what you do or do not tell me.

Subject: Connecting to the Internet via an unnamed router

Customer's exact description: i cannot connect

Discussion: I'm assuming that you are running a recent version of Microsoft Windows such as XP, Vista or 7. This will be a three (3) phase solution. It is imperative that each step be followed in order.

First Step: Let's make certain that your operating system is ready to accept your router. Click on the following link and Microsoft will analyze your system and correct any deficiencies. Microsoft Fixit Site.

Second Step: Make certain that your router is up-to-date.

Updates are regularly posted on the manufacturer's site to fix issues you encountered while attempting to use their device. The following will guide you on how to keep your device updated and working properly.

These are the common reasons why you need to do an upgrade:

• Dropping or intermittent connection
• Fix the bugs and known issues with the current firmware or driver version
• Basic Troubleshooting did not work

NOTE: For basic troubleshooting tips in wirelessly connecting to your router, please refer to your user manual.

Firmware updates are required especially if you start experiencing connection problems within your local network. An updated firmware also fixes the bugs of its previous version as well as providing new functionalities for the device. However, this should only be done after doing some basic troubleshooting that did not work.

NOTE: Updating the router's firmware is not recommended if there are no connectivity issues.

Adapters

A driver update for your adapter is necessary in order to enhance the wireless performance and functionality of your device. This is recommended especially if the adapter is not working properly after you updated the router or the computer itself. A corrupted driver will cause your adapter to stop working.

QUICK TIP: For Ethernet and wireless adapters, you need to download drivers while for devices such as routers, gateways and network access storage, you need to download the firmware. The table below will show the type of file you will download according to your device.

Third Step: Connecting to the Internet using a Router

Choose a convenient location to begin installing your router, such as an open floor space or table. This does not need to be the permanent location of the router. For wireless routers, it may be necessary to re-position the unit after installing it as the signals may not reach all areas needed.

  1. Unplug the power to your Internet modem.
  2. Power down your computer(s).
  3. Plug the power in to your router.
  4. Connect your Internet modem to the router. The cable plugs into the router jack named "WAN" or "Internet". Turn on your Modem.
  5. Connect one computer to the router. Even if the router is a wireless model, connect this first computer to the router via a network cable.
  6. Turn on the computer.
  7. From the computer connected to the router, open your web browser. Enter the router's address, http://192.168.2.1, and press Enter on your keyboard.
  8. Click Login in the upper right-hand corner of the page. The router does not ship with a password, so just click Submit.

To configure the router to connect to the Internet, you must enter information provided by your Internet Service Provider (ISP) into the "Connection Type" section in the left-hand column under the "Internet WAN" heading of the router's configuration page. If using DSL Internet, you may need to enter the PPPoE username and password. Likewise, if you have been issued a static IP address by your provider, the static IP fields (including network mask and gateway) must also must be set in the router.

If this is a wireless router, change the network name (referred to as SSID). While the router comes to you with a network name set at the factory, you may want to use something more familiar for your network. Read Changing the router's wireless channel and SSID for a description of this process.
Verify that this computer can connect to the Internet properly. Open a new web browser and visit a few Internet sites such as Google.com or Yahoo.com.
Finally, configure additional network security features as desired to guard your systems against Internet attackers.

That's the three step program to solve this particular problem.

If you are still having problems, follow the steps outlined in the Windows operating instructions. Unfortunately, most individuals buy computers with the software installed by the manufacturer and don't receive the full manual.

Open Internet Explorer
Click on TOOLS
Click on INTERNET OPTIONS
Click on CONNECTIONS
Click on SETUP
Click on I WANT TO SET UP MY INTERNET CONNECTION MANUALLY
Click on NEXT
Click on I CONNECT THROUGH A LOCAL AREA NETWORK (LAN)
Click on NEXT
Click on NEXT [this is not a typo]
Click on TO CONNECT TO THE INTERNET IMMEDIATELY .........; and,
Click on FINISH

You should now be connected.

All the best,

Ben
