This is quite the job...I owned an Automotive Audio shop and my best tech took nearly 3 hours to install the 975 ! Contact BEL they're very good on customer service...If you're not capable perhaps they may recommend a dealer for installation. Good Luck

Plug into accessory plug or lighter socket

Sounds like a dirty receptacle. If you're a smoker, I guarantee that's the problem. Take the cigarette lighter fuse out of your vehicle and clean the receptacle with sandpaper wrapped around a small stick. Good luck!

This detector - along with other high-end types that require a microprocessor to analyze signals - performs a self-test when powering up. This is done for the same reasons a Power On Self Test is done on your computer.
