I do not know your vehicle but in that time frame a lot of cars used what is called a ballast resistor. During start it was shorted allowing the coil to output more power, once the engine came up to speed about two seconds the short was removed. Shorting simply means bypassing the resistor. HI, sorry I am not closer, but the mechanics are very easy for any good mechanic, if you get a workshop manual from a UK Lotus specialist (sjsportscars). they do all parts mailorder the manual is very detailed, if you have a standard model, if you have the US high spec most race shops can tune the engine

it is in and or under the back seat. put it toward the middle of the car. if not you will brake it and the truck will not close. So you might want to go to the dealer to find out if there is a fix now to get the cable replaced so if you try to open it the wrong way at least you can close the trunk
