sorry to tell ya this sounds like the starter is bad , not too bad though only two bolts and two wires to change it (once you access it) the click you hear is the bendix solinoid clicking in but the switch inside the solinoid is not giving power to the starter motor, the telltale for this is it did'nt happen overnight , you may be able to get it started once or twice more by having someone hold key to start posisition and sharply striking starter with WOODEN end of hammer handle but that's only gonna let you get it started enough to get it someplace dry to replace starter
