Attempt to turn on computer, no OS install windows

Marginal hard drive, hard drive cable, or hard drive controller (on motherboard).

Other suspect parts may be the CD ROM drive you're trying to run the OS install from. It may also be flaky, causing you to think you're loading the OS, but not really and not reporting errors until you discover the OS is not completely installed.

First thing to do is pull the HDD and cable out, reseat firmly and try again. May as well do the same for the CD/DVD drive.

I keep getting a page_ fault_ in_ nonpaged_ area error message

Hello,

This could be a software and not a CMOS problem.

First format that HDD, take it off if you want to backup and format it if it has bad sectors then you need a new disk, as for the boot you need to restore defaults on the BIOS menu F2 or F12 should get you there.

After that problem should be solved, worst case scenario you need a new HDD, but it's quite easy to replace and in some cases you even haev a port with two screws with direct access.

Toshiba M45-S165 startup issues

This is normally a motherboard issue. I had one with the same symptoms and I had to replace the motherboard. Worked great after the board was replaced. I had to replace the board because unlike your issue mine stopped working all together. It did take a while before it quit though. Just a note: I have had to replace several of these motherboards for customers as well. If your LCD is broken, you may be better off to save your data and put it in a new laptop that would include a warranty unless your super fond of the machine or you have access to inexpensive parts.
Hope this helps...

Boot problem

If you repair the os using the cd, The personal files will remain as is.But if you format the drive and reinstall the os then everything is wiped out. Try repairing the os, If not then log on using the safe mode and copy your data on to a different drive. Or use a floppy to log through dos mode and back up your data

M40x sometimes freez on logo

Sometimes viruses can trigger slow start ups. Try running your virus scan. also, you should make sure that your memory is working correctly. When you have a memory stick that has failed, its hard to tell if you have over 2 gigs of mem installed but, when you start it up, it will struggle during the process.

New RAM and Computer won't Boot

Try booting with just one module inserted, then switch to just the other to see if the problem is with one of the new DIMMs. Does it still work fine with the old RAM?

The fax console is recieving the land line number

The problem is not in the configuration, but the fax connection. The fax modem port must be connected to the fax jack - not the same jack you connect your phone to.

I spilled tea on my packard bell easynote

Two things to check.
Open the laptop up and re-connect the keyboard connection. It has a locking mechanism so be sure to unlock that first. Also when you're doing that you can see if there's any water (tea) still in there to dry off.
If that doesn't work, then plug in an external keyboard mate, cause the only other way to fix this is to replace the keyboard, the parts to open up the laptop keyboard itself are intricate and it's much too compicated, plus I've never done that (Seeing as that it's all glued together).
Hope this helps, be sure to rate!

I had a virus

If you would like to have Vista, then I suggest going to Walmart or Bestbuy and buying Vista. Research the different types of Vista to see which is right for you. With the Vista disc you won't have this problem with the install. At this point I don't believe you can go any further unless you have an operating system disc and you don't really want to run 98. You've already got the new hard drive, you might as well do it right with what you want.

RTC battery

http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptops/ToshibaM45/Satellite_M45_disassembly_1.htm

the rtc battery is on the motherboard.i doubt its the problem. If you have a voltmeter check your charger to make sure it is working. then make sure battery is charged with the voltmeter. try and run the system without the battery in, just using the ac adapter. if it works with the ac adapter and not the battery your battery probably needs to replaced as its been charged and discharged too many times. you might want to just reload the os. the link i gave gives disassembly to all toshiba laptops. the rtc battery on the motherboard looks like a watch battery. it should be good for 5 years or more. your laptop battery will go long before the rtc battery.

Need a new hard drive

Hi Ekhubbar,

First of all, if your laptop is still under warranty and suffering from a hardware fault, it may be worth checking with Toshiba in the first instance so see if they can replace it. If you can provide any details about why you require a new hard drive, I may be able to assist further, otherwise if you are just looking for a replacement of the same size and spec, see below.

The product spec of your system quote that the M45-S165 comes with :

"80GB (5400 RPM) Enhanced IDE (ATA-6) hard disk drive; 8.0mm height; user removable"

Doing a quick search reveals a price at around $60.00 (for a drive made by Toshiba). However if you are going for something cheap and cheerful from egg, you may want to check out the $35 drive. It is the same size in storage, and spec wise it will access your data faster.

Here is a link to the specific product in question (on newegg.com):
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductReview.aspx?Item=N82E16822144102

So it would be cheap to buy a seperate laptop hard drive, but do make sure that you have a professional replace it for you.

Hope this helps,
David

IEEE connection

If your using a Vista OS, the IEEE has a separate link in device manager. If your using an XP the IEEE connection should be under network adapters. This firewire connection is similar to USB but has a faster transfer rate. Since you did full recovery you may need to re install the software that comes with the device your trying to connect to the laptop which uses the Firewire connection.

Hope this helps.
