I own a Toshiba Qosmio

What your describing is usually a video chip problem, if you had to send it in for repair under a recall or warranty issue, and it was repaired by Toshiba, then by all means contact them and seek further repair. Or you can also politely tell them that you would like them to replace the laptop with a similar model. I have worked with Toshiba as well as many other brands, and I have found that most if not all companies will be willing to " Make it right" for the consumer.

Hello, go into your BIOS, make sure the hard drive is selected to boot from. Then, look for a setting for factory reset, make sure it is also enabled. Then shut the computer off for 2 minutes. Now hold the zero button down and press Start, windows should load and then you should see the factory restore/reset window warning you that all data will be lost. Click YES, select Recovery of Factory Default, then follow the prompts to get windows installed. Hope this helps. Second solution: Restart windows if the Factory reset does not work. Before you see the BIOS or windows logo, press several times on F8 till you see a black screen with a few lines of information. Click Last Known Good Config and then Enter. Last Solution: Restart Windows, press F8 several times before you see any writing or logos, once you see the black screen with a few white lines of information, press Repair my windows. If you get the windows could not fix this problem, select try another method, it should take you to another screen, select US, then user name, put in password if you have one, then select Restore. Good luck

Qosmio f60 fan goes on high speed and freez. It

I have the same "computer" qosmio f60. I've replaced the hard drive, installed a new window 7 OS, changed RAM paging, power options, run the things with a fan pointed at the computer fan.The fan goes to high speed and the HDD LED unblinking. I've brought the laptop to two computer shops whose owners knew less about computers than I did. I tried to go to a Toshiba recommended shop in Toronto except they changed to Apple-service only. I tried phoning Toshiba, they just want to change 4 bucks a minute for technical assistance. I've had this Toshiba-thing going on 3 years with the troubles starting after the first year. No one cares about this problem. If I see a Toshiba factory I'm going to chuck this red brick of cra through the window.BTW it's not a virus or rootkit. I had to learn how to partition a HDD sector through some crazy BIOS program before installing windows. There's no virus or rootkit that's causing this problem. It's mostly been freezing on me with games.

Remove your battery, and unplug it. open it up and pull out the cmos battery. wait 3 minutes. Boot it up without the CMOS battery; it should say password disabled. Put it back together.

Hello

Your Laptop has no support for windows 7, never mind the x64 version.
The last supported OS was XP.
If the FN keys are the only thing not working, you have been very lucky.
You may get some help by searching X64 windows 7 forums

I think i need my motherboard replace or repair my

This definitely sounds like a hardware problem. The problem sounds like it could very well be your video card or the inverter card. Both are difficult to get to and should be checked by a professional, especially if you're not familiar with disassembling a laptop. If your computer has a switch monitor build in and you can hook up the monitor before turning on the computer then press that button (it would be up with other proprietary function buttons toward the top) if you have this button and still nothing happens, then you can rule out the video section. Otherwise this could be a video problem, which would be cheaper than buying a whole new motherboard, so please check this option first. Again be extra careful if you attempt this yourself (again NOT RECOMMENDED) be especially careful with the tiny ribbon cables. If you get this in the hands of someone professional they may be able to save you some money by at least checking the video solutions, otherwise if you go with a new mother board or try and fail to fix the video yourself you'll be spending more than you bargained for...

When i turn on the computer i here the hardrive

Screen not working
are you able to hear the windows log in?
if you do but no image, most likelly your video card is ruined. overheated or dropped maybe? don't worry is bad but not that bad, there is a way to fix that by a professional.
take it to a computer repair shop and have them check the video card ask if they have a rework station or someone who may they have to unsolder about 50 pins at the same time get a new card and solder it again.
sometimes they apply heat to it and it will work again but for just a few days maybe weeks but it goes bad again. so replacement is the best option.
I used to charge about 250 bucks but you may be able to ask for a rebate.
do not take it to a major computer store they would tell you there is no repair so you can go in and get a new computer

if it works for you don't forget to rate me
thx

This method got me further along.from the absolute DEAD state the laptop was in. Now I know that the laptop is really hosed in other ways. I will keep you posted.

Be sure the laptop is on a stand - or on a pad with built in fans. The processor needs to be cooled at the high demand during gaming.
Also - removing the processor's and video card's heat sink - cleaning old thermal paste, and re-applying new thermal paste will help with the heat transfer.
This is heat related. Setting it on a desk is not providing enough cooling.

Thanks!!

How do I remove the invertor from a Qosmio

The inverter is located behind the bezel at the bottom of the screen/lid and in between the hinges.
The bezel has screws that fixes it to the lid and these can be hidden by stick-on plastic covers. Use a thin sharp point to lift these plastic covers off to reveal the screws. Remove these screws.
The bezel has small plastic catches that clips it to the lid and may also be fixed to the LCD screen with double sided tape. Use a thin blade and insert it between the LCD screen and the bezel and gently ease the bezel off. Start at the bottom of the screen and gradually work along the edge and continue around each side to free the bezel.
Be CAREFUL not to scratch the LCD screen and DO NOT apply too much pressure to the face of the LCD screen because you can crack the glass surface and ruin the LCD screen.
Once the bezel is removed then you can get access to the inverter to remove it.

Freezing problem

check for vent blockages, hoover around area. try starting up in safe mode (F8 on start up) and see if it crashes, incase this is a driver issue and a process of elimination is required. If it does not crash then a driver issue is a definate. If it still crashes then a processor overheating is the problem

Lines on Toshiba Laptop

I have the F15-AV201 (purchased in 2005) and it had the vertical lines on the display (appeared six months ago). This is a defect, on the nVidia graphics chip.

Since the chip is soldered on to the system or mother board, the only fix is to replace the entire system board.

I called Toshiba around April 10, 2009. The person I talked to was in the Philippines. Oh, the number was 800.457.7777, then at the first prompt press #1, #3 then #1 (rather than waiting for each prompt.)

Told them the model number and that I heard Toshiba was replacing the system board at no charge. I called it the "Northstar System Board Replacement Program." He looked up my serial number info and said that it qualified for the "SYSTEM BOARD ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM."

He sent me a UPS prepaid box, sent the notebook in, got it back about seven days later! It had an updated system board that included a better nVidia graphics chip. A system check indicates it has the GeForce Go 6600.

Note: I did not have to argue with the CSR, it's like they are told not to argue and simply arrange for the repair. Cool.
Note: I got the notebook with Windows XP and all original software installed. It's like they used the System Recovery disks to reinstall everything.

I did include a post-it note saying that the OS was messed up. Also, included with the return were two CDs that contained drivers and applications that are in comport with the new system board. The instructions said to install XP with my old recovery CD, but for all other drivers and apps, to use the two disks they sent me.

So cool that Toshiba is doing the right thing and fixing these at no cost to us.
