this is what I did & it took all of about 5 minutes. call tech support for direct TV & they will walk you through the process. the phone # should be on your bill or you can Google it. when you call the #, you will get the automated system, say I want to talk to a representative, (tip - if you sound upset to the automated system it will put you through sooner & won't run you in circles for so long, the system is designed to read your responses.)

Is the remote different from your original remote? Press 'menu' go to 'settings & help' or 'parental, favs, & setup' then 'settings' or 'setup', then remote control. Go 'advanced ...' and check ir/rf mode. If it is exactly RC65X then the receiver should be set to IR.
