My seagate external hard drive power supply adapter had shotcircut, will my external hard disk which is 1 tb will work?

Usually there is a diode in place to prevent spurious voltage reaching the hard drive. Replacing the power supply may work. I would replace the whole enclosure.

My seagate 500gb external hdd recognize in device manager.

I would get a bootable linux distro and boot up and use the partion manager there. (knoppix) If that does not work I would get the factory diagnostic tool from seagate and if it gave errors return it for warrenty or if not under warrenty least you will know there is something funny with the hardware.

I have a seagate mobile

Hi

First upon you have to clear some query. You are use the anti virus in all computer, and while plug in the external hard driver in any other computer 1st you have to scan external driver. if you don;t do this think so definitely you on trouble. Because when you are connecting the driver one computer to other one, he distribute the capture the virus, this process running all the time when you connected to computer.

I suggest you use TEST_DISK from cgsecurity, its free and very effective wiki it first, caution though as it can write over the data.

Personally using this software for about 4 HDD's data recovery very succesful. Learn how to use it, that data on your computer would still be there just try to rebuild the path to get to them <wink>

1. chkdsk
2. testdisk
3. fix MBR
4. use system restore and back up's for the MASTER OS that you would connect your HDD to
4. repair ntldr and ntdetect, after you install SYSTEM RECOVERY

CHEERS!
its not what you know, its who you know. good job in reaching out for help.

External hdd converted to RAW not readable

You will lose all data on this disk using this solution. That is your warning. You did not provide the OS that you are running, so I will assume it is something in the Windows family. Open disk manager and select the external hd. Delete the partitions. Create one large new partition. Format said partition using appropriate filesysetm. If formatting hangs or fails, try it on another machine. If it fails, you could try diagnostics that came with the disk. However, if it fails on two separate machine, I would us it for target practice and get a new one.

Hard drive not working

I presume you set up this hard drive as the second hard drive, or as an external drive. You can do these: 1. Disk Management: Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Computer Management (please run as administrator; right click it), Disk Management. Is this hard drive info exist in this screen? If it is, then the hard drive is not bad. Click on the hard drive info, right click, and you can do some actions (format, expand the volume, assign a drive letter, etc.). Check if the partition is not active. 2. If necessary, test and fix it using Norton Utility (download and run it): http://download.cnet.com/Norton-Utilities/3000-18512_4-10907620.html

Seagate expansion drive 3tb will not power up there may be a disconnected wire any ideas

Sorry for the information request, just noticed that it was dropped. Chances are the port where the power goes in was damaged, or the controller board. When I break a port, I jiggle the cord in the slot a bit to see if it will suddenly turn on, almost instant proof it's the port. Ports can be easily re-soldered or replaced on the board if the device is out of warranty. Anything other then the power port will likely require a competent technician. It's also likely that the drive inside can be removed and placed in a computer to retrieve your data, but this will also void your warranty. The way I see it, the problem will be how to retrieve your data if you do have a warranty, since Seagate sends you a replacement drive and you send them the damaged one, they usually charge for data recovery.

Connecting old hard drive

Hi Dave, Thanks for putting your concerns here and I'd pleased to assist any suitable reply. The drive comes with an USB 3.0 cable which you'll need to connect the USB port situated on the back of your CPU or any corner (either left or right) of your Laptop. You'll need to insert one cable to the power cord as well if there is no internal source of power supply. At last, if you're struggling while making your hard drive to work, feel free to ask.
