Your OS is not compatible. Period. Either go back to what worked for you or get a new scanner that will work in new environment.

I had that problem...it sounds like a SCSI bus problem...If you have a Mac...you can get a Ratoc SCSI to firewire converter...it solved my problems..Take Care, Carole

I just told someone else this solution...KILL the SCSI junk...I had nothing but trouble with it with my Mac....I got a Ratoc Firewire to UltraSCSI Converter...to solve the regular SCSI to ultra SCSI problem...I also bought an adapter....It works great...no need for a SCSI card...or a driver...you just plug directly into your firewire port! If anyone can help me with my TA adapter startup problem...I'll be thrilled! Carole

Hi...I  have a PowerLook III, and that sounds like the super frustrating problem I used to have...first of all, don't worry about it not being used for awhile...I didn't use mine for 10 years and now it's great...except my Trans adapter problem. Anyway...I am running Mac OSX.4.11...I got a Ratoc SCSI to Firewire adapter from the Lasersoft people..they make the Silverfast scanninng software...and my scanner works great..no more creepy SCSI bus and driver and card issues...I highly recommed one...I hope this helps! Normally you should not have to do that. If you do you have to take the glass off.

Hi. I have a Mirage II A3 scanner that was working fine till I save it in a closet a few years ago. Now I need it again, but I don´t have the PC I used to have with ISA port... I finally found a brand new PCI card I had in another Umax scanner, so I connected it to the PCI slot in my actual PC. And I cannot connect the scanner... I installed the software correctly, but in Test mode, it gives me a Link failure. Besides, the scanner does its setup when powered on, the lamp goes from right to left, stays there a few seconds and return to its original position. But the UTA and READY lamps keep blinking... I found this page:https://ask.adaptec.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1869/~/scanner-test-link-failures-with-umax-scanner, that explains this can be fixed upgrading the software, but the link does no longer exist... Could you please send me the software I need to connect it..? It´s really important I can do this. I have a huge job to do but it doesn´t work... I´l be waiting for your answer. THANKS!!

Only one termination should be powered in a SCSI chain. Generally, it should be the last device. It's been a long time since I've worked with SCSI, but I recall that scanners may be picky about where in a chain of multiple devices they are located; electrical noise on the SCSI data lines causes problems with the scanner electronics. I don't recall whether best results are found from locating it as the first device in line from the computer or the last device.
