Looking for the password for my unit

If you cannot connect to the device, you do not know the password, and cannot recall it under any circumstances then you will have to reset it. On the back of the device is a recessed button that you will have to depress for some time, all the light will go off and then come back after 15 seconds or so. When you are completely done with the "hard-reset" the you will have to go back into the router and completely reset your settings for both your physical lan and wireless lan.

Wap 54g asking for a network key? what is that?

Contact your ISP provider how to get the WEP key...

Otherwise, just reset your router. there's a reset button at the back. When scanning for netwotk choose linksys with the one that has the best signal (4-5 bars) then connect. You won't be asked for any WEP key anymore.

Hope it helps! ^_^

How do I password protect my current linksys

Go to Google and ask the same question. It's too lengthy to explain properly and I do not want to leave anything out.
It is quite easy to do, just follow the instructions, if you get fouled up, just close the program and start over.
Some Linksys routers come with software as well that makes it even easier.

I DON T KNOW HOW TO CHANGE THE SETTINGS ON MY

Go to your router's Web Utility, if possible through a computer connected to the router by cable (because you'll loose access to the router once you change its encryption rules). If you haven't changed the access parameters, the default IP address is 192.168.1.1, with 'User Name' left blank, and 'Password' set to 'admin'. In the 'Wireless' tab. I supponse you already have encryption definitions there. Try to set your 'Security Mode' to 'WPA Personal' and 'Algorithm' to 'TKIP'. Chose any 'WPA Shared Key' you want (from 8 to 63 characteers), and set the 'Group Key Renewal' parameter to 0 (zero, i.e. no key renewal, at all). Save your settings.
You see, my router is not Linksys, but in essence, the encryption parameters are quite alike, and this is how I managed to provide internet to my son's Wii console.
Hope it works for you.

I don't know how to reinstall the linksys access

T
o access the Access Points Setup, and the LAN IP address has not changed, then computer must have an IP address of 192.168.1.XXX. If the Access Point is plugged in via Ethernet to a Linksys Router and the computer is also connected a Linksys router via Ethernet, then the PC should already have a correct IP address (unless the LAN IP Address of the Router has been changed). If unsure, please assign the computer a Static IP Address so it will have an IP address in the same range as the Access Points IP Address.

If the Access Point is being connected to a hub/switch/router via Ethernet, then use the cable that was provided with Access Point. If the Access Point is being connected to the computer directly, then a Cross Over cable must be used. Cross over cables can be purchased at most electronic stores.
Remember: When ever a change is made in the Setup of the Access Point, the Apply button must be used to save the settings to the Access Point.
  1. Open a web browser (such as Internet Explorer or Netscape)
  2. When the browser opens, go to the "Address" bar and input the IP address of the Access Point.
      Default IP addresses:
    • WAP11 v2.8 - 192.168.1.251
    • WAP54G v1.1 - 192.168.1.245
  3. A "User Name" and "Password" prompt will appear, leave the "User Name" field blank and input the Access Points password (The default password of a Linksys Access Point is admin) into the "Password" field.

Make my Linksys router secure

Go to Internet Explorer (or Firefox, Chrome, whatever you have), and type this in the address bar: 192.168.1.1
A window will pop up asking for login to the router. Assuming you haven't made any changes to it prior to asking here, login with "admin" as the username, and "admin" as the password.
You should now see what looks like a menu screen like this:
d8d283f.jpg

You're going to look for the "Wireless" tab and click there. The first screen you'll see is where you can change the name of your wireless network. It is suggested that you change it to something that you'll know and your neighbors won't think its you. For example, I had a router with a wireless network (SSID) called "LAKEWOOD SHERIFF", only me and my sisters knew what this was but none of my neighbors would want to log on because they think they would be watched by the police.
Save settings.
Now back up to the menu bar, under the "Wireless" tab, you see that "Basic Wireless Settings" is lit and the other choices are dimmed out. Click on "Wireless Security", here is where you would change the password to your wireless internet.
Most technicians would probably tell you to use WEP security mode because of the incompatibility with older devices, but chances are, you have a newer computer, so I'm going to suggest using WPA Personal. This, by the way, is easier to use than WEP, because WEP requires an exact amount of characters for a password, depending on the algorithm you use. With WPA Personal, you can use any password that you can remember and that will be used as your wireless access password. Your password can be anything from "sky" to "iforgothowtowashmyclothes", can contain uppercase and lowercase, and can contain numbers. "AZ41sx52dc" is one that uses all of the above.
Please note that if you use uppercase and lowercase, you must enter it exactly as you put it on the router or the password will be incorrect.
For example, if you enter "PeterPiper" as your WPA Personal password, you must enter it as "PeterPiper". If you enter it as "Peterpiper", "peterpiper", "pETERpIPER", etc etc, the router will not allow you access.
Remember to save settings as you go along! :)
Hope this helps,
-CP
