Windows 8 computer will not recognize the printer.

Unless a driver is installed and the driver required is not integral to the windows 8 library of drivers , the printer will not work. It must have the appropriate driver to function. It may be that the printer is a few years old and perfectly functioning but without the driver it is just a paperweight. Tome manufacturers do not update drivers wben anew operating system is released because they want the public to shell out for more hardware. Companies such as HP avoid this usually and provide great support for their equopment. Certain Japanese manucacturers are not so good. I believe your printer may be unsupported by windows 8. What is make and model please?

If it says save, I'd suggest the printer has been set to PDF or some such, or the destination has been set to FILE:

Warning ribbon in V53.16.7Z

The "ribon in" warning is because you set the printer to print DIRECT THERMAL insted THERMAL TRANSFER. The first mode is for printing directly on the thermal labels, not for using a ribon. The ribon sensor detects that a ribon is pressent and you get this message. You need to change the printing mode to Thermal Transfer from the printer Setup Menu, or from the Print Driver instaled on PC.

I have several Zebra 300dpi printers. One of them doesn't print properly it looks like the font is too large. I have compared the set up with a printer that works and they look the same.

First I'm asking you, what model of printer do you have? Check if the printhead installed is a 300dpi one. Also check if the model of printer is 300dpi configuration by verifying the "printer part number/serial number" label. If the printer is a 300dpi model and the printhead was changed with a 200dpi, all the label content will be printed bigger, just like you described.
