the printer only prints what the computer tells it to if you want it to print in a language type out what you want ,highlight it and then use a language font to change it , then print it out.

I don't know if any errors with red blinks for the 2844, but the printer will blink red five times if you power it up with the button held. Is the button possibly stuck down?

Unless a driver is installed and the driver required is not integral to the windows 8 library of drivers , the printer will not work. It must have the appropriate driver to function. It may be that the printer is a few years old and perfectly functioning but without the driver it is just a paperweight. Tome manufacturers do not update drivers wben anew operating system is released because they want the public to shell out for more hardware. Companies such as HP avoid this usually and provide great support for their equopment. Certain Japanese manucacturers are not so good. I believe your printer may be unsupported by windows 8.
