I have this router that I have hooked up by

If you have never set up any password for it then it is normally set as the default password which is written somewhere on the router or else in the manual. Now you can access that password by going into the router settings from any of the 2 pc which is hardwired to the router. You need to know the router ip address which is normally in the format of 192.x.x.x as x representing some whole numbers, this is normally written somewhere on the manual or on the router itself. Once you are in the router settings, then look for wireless set up and change it to a password that you prefer. Hope this helps. Any question please feel free to ask. Remember that changing the password will require a pc hardwired to the router.

Connectivity issues, modem light off and strange behavior.

Hello Brandon, well what I'm thinking here is that, the reason that this one PC is Still Connected with a new IP address, is that it is Prob Connecting to some other Connection outside your Home, maybe some other open wireless Connection, in your Neighborhood, you might want to check on that if you don't know how let me know and I will instruct you how)
next first of all make sure that you are getting power to the router, and if you are, then on a PC that is wired Directly to the Router, follow these directions;
1. depending on what windows operating system your using go to your control panel
2. find an icon called network connections and click on it so it opens
3.when it opens find an item that says LAN OR HIGH SPEED INTERNET, under that will be a icon listed that will indicate local or lan connection-right click on it and you will get a drop down menu, on that menu right click on properties.
4.under where it states; THE CONNECTION USES THE FOLLOWING ITEMS, find an item that says '''INTERNET PROTOCOL'"' AND LEFT CLICK ON IT ONCE just to highlight it. then find the button that says PROPERTIES and click on it.
5. you will get another box that pops up, in this box is where we are going to enter all your ROUTER INFORMATION,
6.IN THE BOX CLICK ON USE THE FOLLOWING IP ADDRESS. then in the IP address field put in this address; 192.168.1.55 the above address will be your PC address.
IN THE SUBNET MASK FIELD PUT IN; 255.255.255.0
IN THE DEFAULT GATEWAY FIELD ENTER IN; 192.168.1.1
now under that you will find an item called; USE THE FOLLOWING DNS SERVER ADDRESS; and the next item under that is; PREFERRED DNS SERVER; in this field enter in; 192.168.1.1
and under that you will find an item called; ALTERNET DNS SERVER; and in that field enter in 192.168.1.2 after your done with that on the bottom of this box and the bottom of the box thats under the one that your on click on OK, AN THEN CLICK ON OK AGAIN, this will close both boxes.
7. now X out of everything that you have open till you see just your desktop.
8.open up internet explorer, and in the address field, type in 192.168.1.1 and click on enter, now this should bring up your router's page, and from there you should be able to configure every item an PC that is connected to your router,
I hope this information helps, you may want to print this out and follow it step by step, so it will make it easy on you.
Terry

MN-700 just set up as WAP & lost web access to device

Routers typically assign themselves an IP address of the form xx.xx.xx.1. However, it is standard for a multi-functional device that can be configured as an access point to assign itself an IP address of the form xx.xx.xx.2 when configured as an access point, under the assumption that there will be a router on the same network with the address xx.xx.xx.1. So try accessing your AP via the "2" address and see if that does it.

Can't connect through microsoft mn-700 router when

From your very brief explanation, my first thought is that you may not have the wireless settings set up properly in the wireless router.
You will need to connect first with a lan cat5e or similar type cable to first connect with the router.
If you have already done this, then the problem may be with your network adapter in your computer.

unless I knew more specifics, your problem is to vague to help further.

Can the microsoft MN700 Router be used with cable

I would say yes but i have not tested it personaly, but what i know about routers it should work with. Cable internet and dsl are exactly the same thing. The only difference is how its delivered to your house and the speed of it.

DSL tands for "Digital Subscriber Line." It is medium for transferring data over regular phone lines and can be used to connect to the Internet

cable the same thing except it is internet though the cable line. you u run the out of your

you probably wont even have to change any settings on it either. the line out of the back of your cable modem will plug into the same spot the old cable ran to when you just had dsl.

if this has been helpful please mark it has fixya. also please rate me, and if you have found it very helpful or informative please recommend me.

I would like to set a secure wireless network.

click start click run, or type in the search box if using vista, type CMD and press enter

type ipconfig
make note of the default ip address and type that into your web browser in the address bar
might ask for username and password try admin for both , as you havent mentioned what your router is or who you getting internet from

look for wireless settings and in there you should find security
this will then allow you to set a wireless key
choose WPA rather than WEP as its more secure
enable it, save settings and restart the router

search for wireless connections on your laptop and enter the security key that is on the router and you should now have a wireless connection

How do I manually add a device to my MN-700 router

The static ip address is set on the device itself, not the router.

You will need to make sure the ip address and subnet mask you specify for the device is in the same network range as the router.

Ex. MN-700 router IP Address 192.168.1.1
Mask 255.255.255.0
New device IP Address 192.168.1.5
Mask 255.255.255.0

If the new device is a pc, you will also need to enter the DNS settings provided by your ISP to be able to connect to services on the internet.

If you have any additional questions, please post a reply.

If you feel this information is helpful to you, please take a few minutes to rate this reply.
