See if another audio source connected to the mixer produces the same results. Try with the same cable and then with another cable. The purpose of this procedure is to determine if it is the cable and/or the laptop. (Sound card problem???) or mixer. Is it ALL audio or just specific audio from for instance, a music application? Does it cut out using iTunes? The mixer may have a bad or oxidized input. Try a different input channel? Are you using headphones to listen? It may be the headphone amp? OR, if audio is produced via amped speakers, it may be the mixer output. Does the mixer have metering? Do the meters also cut out? Does the laptop do the same thing if plugging in headphones to the laptop directly (no mixer)?

I looked up what that unit is so I'm not uber familiar and this is before coffee, however, check your effects levels, possibly delays or echos are building up on an individual channel and adding to your total output making it clip. Even if you don't have the effects on output, they can work in the background and clip internally. Is the output sound affected? Magnetic interference is another possibility if you are running it close to pickups, recorders and other high power supplies. Trim levels set too high? I assume you have the neutron connected to the computer via a USB cable. Right? What kind of cable are you using between the neutron and the workstation? Will the neutron play midi coming from the computer? Does it interface with Band in the Box or a software sequencer (Logic,etc)?

make sure its the proper power adapter. If its not it will introduce all sorts of noise. I would use a proper adapter from behringer. Of one of the adapter damaged the internals.
