Netgear router dg834gt

Have look in the router settings for the actual internet connection speeds, as these are a more true reading than the speed check as the speeds can vary at different times of the day and 2 or 3 speed checks can bring different results. your actual connection speed that is showing in the routers settings is the connection you are getting from your ISP. If you are with BT they usually recommend using their latest routers, why i'm not sure, as the only thing i have noted is that the MTU is set at 1500 (Maximum Transmition Units)and in other routers the MTU is automatically set at 1493, so look for the MTU setting and up it if necassary, but not above 1500, also double check all the settings, even put the bt router back in and see if speeds improve, if, you know the BT router is set up purposly for faster connection speeds. Also try checking your speed at a speed test site at a quieter time of day, you will also see different speed check sites give you different speed results.

Netgear router

Here are some troubleshooting steps that I suggest you try: 1. Check physical connections. a. Connect the modem to the Internet port of the router. The Internet ?i? LED on the front of the router should light up. b. Connect the computer to one of the four LAN ports (i.e port 1, 2, 3 or 4) on the back of the router. The corresponding port light where you connected the computer should be lit up. 2. Access the router's web-based utility. a. Please open any web browser like Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator. b. Connect to the router by typing http://routerlogin.com/basicsetting.htm or http://192.168.1.1 in the address field and click Enter or Return key. c. A window will prompt for a user name and password. By default, the user name is "admin" and the password is "password". Scroll down, look for the Security Options settings and select WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy). d. Set the Authentication type to "Automatic" and the Encryption Strength to "64bit". e. Leave the Passphrase field blank, select Key 1 and enter a 10-digit number. Note: The 10-digit number you typed in the key 1 will be the password or network key for the wireless connection. f. Click Apply button to save the changes. g. Go to Router Status under Maintenance tab and check if there is an IP address under Internet port. If it's 0.0.0.0, do a power cycle. 5. Power cycle. a. Power off the modem, router and computers. b. Turn on the power of the modem first and wait for it to initialize, the lights to stop blinking. c. Power back the router and the computers. Netgear wpn824v2 can't login to router, can't reset defaults. BEWARE SPAM NUMBER +1-800-532-4187 BELOW

The router username is always admin
The default password is password or (for older routers) 1234
Try the default username and password before resetting the router to the factory defaults.
When a router resets, it goes back to the state when it was new — all information that was entered by hand is lost! Examples are critical things you need to get online, such as ISP username, ISP password, IP addresses, security keys, and ports and services that were opened. It all needs to be re-entered.

So, have your ISP information before resetting the router.
Naturally, if you moved to a new city, or if you bought a used router, the old information in the router may not be of use to you. Contact your ISP if you can't connect any computer directly to the Internet. Then, if there is a connection problem when the router is added, see No Internet Access Through the Router

Reset for most routers with a reset button on the rear panel
Write down configuration information such as IP addresses, security keys, opened ports and services, etc., that you modified. (The default username is admin and the password is either password or 1234. Try these before resetting the router.)

Press the reset button on the back until the test light blinks.
This takes about 10 seconds.
(To avoid accidental resets, the small button is recessed. Use a pen or paperclip to access it.)
Release the button.
Wait for the router to reboot.
Log in with the default password.
If the router was not cleared, try these additional steps AFTER the router has finished rebooting.

Unplug the router's power.
Press and hold the reset button.
While the button is held down, reconnect router's power.
Continue to hold the reset button for 20 seconds after reconnecting the power.
Wait for the router to reboot.
Log in with the default password

I need to know what my password is

If you lost your password you will need to reset into factory settings. There will be a pin hole near power wire use a tooth pick or paper clip or something of thAt size and push in and hold for 30 seconds. You will have to reset all settings. Or if you never set the password try admin as user name and password as password. That is usually the factory set info

It is the powertype plugs that plug into the mains circuit not my router flashing but now both plugs are showing green but youview box not responding

I am sure you have tried this, but if not give it a go:- Switch off both powerplugs and leave for 5 minutes.. Switch on the powerplug nearest the router without the LAN cable installed. Wait for 2 minutes and switch on the other powerplug without the LAN cable being attached. Now wait for another 2 minutes before plugging in the LAN cable Now plug in the LAN cable at the router end. After about 2 minutes, plug in the LAN cable at the remote end. Good luck.

My router is working fine I want to add my I-PAD and want wifi to work

on your computer, in a web browser type in 192.168.1.1 to access the router's control panel. You will need to enter admin in the user id and admin in the password, assuming it is in the default state. go to wireless and ensure it is active, then go to wireless security and note the password key, or type in your own. then save the changes. You should be able to go to your iPad and in settings / wifi select the router then key in the wireless password key you entered above. NOTE: if this does not work, on the iPad, select the i beside the network name and the "forget this network" - then go back and try connecting again.
