From laptop to the xbox can only be a media connection. you can only transfer music and photos. You can not connect to the internet from your laptop.

What system?

Is the system you need info for the PS3? valuable info is missing.

Make sure you are using the xbox networking adapter. Some networking adapters may work on it but if you encountered any problems, xbox tech support won't be able to assist you with some troubleshooting since they don't support any product other than the xbox networking adapter.

• To test the connection, go to the system area on your xbox live dashboard then go to network settings and select test xbox live connection.
• If you pass on all test down to NAT then it means you are connected already and you can now enjoy playing online.
• If you fail on the first part of the test which is Network Adapter or if it says not connected on Wireless Network then you need to perform some steps.
• Get back to the network setting's area by pressing B on your controller and select restore to factory defaults. Doing this will restore the xbox live settings to default and you need run another test again which may allow you now to pass.
• If you still fail on wireless network then it means that you need to set your console to wireless mode by going back to Network Settings and selecting the Edit Settings option.

subnet mask is usually 255.255.255.000, or something like that. If you not know what it is, no use trying to set it up. Most devices do set this up after they know what the ip address is. Look what the router or your hub makes for other devices. The gateway (address) is the ip address your provider gave you to connect to.

Do you have the rechargeable Batteries? If so they do wear down after so long or over charging them will destroy the batteries as well. But if your using the AA batteries then it should still work and maybe just needs to be re-synced to your xbox. If that is the case then you push the top small button that says connect on the link I pasted and then the button on the xbox. Try ejecting it at different angles. If that doesn't work, take it to a computer shop.
