All of a sudden when
Usually when you see this it just means the printer is in sleep or low power mode and won't wakeup. Try turning it off and back on or pull the data cable and put into a different usb port. You can adjust some settings in the usb port and the printer that sometimes will make this a bit better but usually you have to wake it up from time to time. Some usb hardware is better than others at waking up what is called Legacy hardware which is just the term for things left plugged in. I have two identical pcs and one does this all the time and the other doesn't. It is better on a a newer laser printer we installed than it was on a inkjet but still does it from time to time no matter what settings.
I usually swear at mine and threaten it as well but pulling its cord seems to make it work the best ;-]
