ESD 7000 Radar Detector Questions & Answers
Troubleshoot
You should try to find out what type of radar devices your police uses.ESD7000 model does not support some devices such as Ku band radar signal, but it should detect all laser signal.Laser signal is often jammed by sun light. If your police uses radar detector detectors VG2 it will force your detector to hide from it making it invisible for detecting.Try talking to someone who has other type of detector that works in your town.It is possible that you will be forced to buy another model.
Charging port won't recognize charging cord
The port may have come loose inside or has become damaged. OR
The charger may be bad.
If the port is bad it is noticable with the charging cord inserted:
It may have free play movement or wiggle
I have a cobra radar dector esd 737
Detecting of radar or lidar emissions depends on mounting of detector. In My experience it is best to mount it just above windscreen wipers. You must check if your detector is visible from license plate level. This is important for laser detection. For other measuring devices it's only important to be visible.Higher mounting facing downwards will reduce false X and K/Ka signals. It will reduce detecing of true as well, so it is all up to you.You must know that laser detecting only covers your car.It d'ont matter if a cop is 300m or 1800m away.X band has a large emission, and it is easily detected.K/Ka band is a pulse emitting and has a lot narrow detecting point. It is effective at max 800m.In ether case speed can be reduced 20-30 km/h in city, and 30-50 km/h on highway.
Laser alert
This is caused by electrical noise in your car's electrical system. Specifically, the problem is excessive alternator whine. This can be exacerbated by somewhat corroded contacts in your car's cigarette lighter socket or by a somewhat corroded vehicle wiring connection to the back side of the cigarette lighter socket.
One potential solution is to try a snap-on RF filter which is available at your local Radio Shack. You would snap this filter around the positive 12V wire leading to your car's cigarette lighter socket. Preferably, if there is enough free slack in the 12V wire leading to the cigarette lighter socket, you would wrap this wire through the RF filter twice before snapping the RF filter closed around the wire.
My radar detector goes off everytime i accelerate.
by going off do you mean alerting you or is the power turning off if it is alerting you you may have electronic interference in the car if the power is going off it may be as simple as a short in the power cord
cobra 773-889-3087 sells then for 10.00 or you can trade your old detector to them and get the next highest model at a discounted price
I need to know what the signals on my radar

ESD 7000Of note, this extremely inexpensive radar detector provides just about the worst performance of any radar detector product currently available from any RD manufacturer. I suggest that you visit radardetector.net to learn more about radar detectors.
Signals
When "X" lights up, this means that your RD is either detecting X band police radar or that it is detecting an X band microwave automatic door opener.
When "K" lights up, this means the same as above except that the radar signal is a K band radar signal.
When "Ka" lights up, then this means that your RD is detecting police Ka band radar since no automatic door openers operate on Ka band.
When "VG-2" lights up, this is supposed to mean that your RD is detecting a VG-2 radar detector detector (RDD). Police use RDDs such as the VG2 and the Spectre to indicate that a motorist is using a radar detector.
