mine does that too. I turn mine on and keep my car parked until it gets a sattelite signal and if i am parked it usually just takes a few min. but if i turn it on while i'm driving forget about it!

Does the unit react when plugged into a charger?

The battery CAN be replaced, but it is not designed so that the user can replace it. Either contact Garmin or your local GPS retailer to see where you can get the battery replaced. If you open the cover to try to replace the battery, you will void the warranty and chance damaging the electronics inside the unit.

Most GPS problems - Hangs, frozen screens, problems acquiring satellites, ETC, can be attributed to the device not having the latest firmware installed.
This firmware enables it to communicate with the satellites - but if they aren't speaking the same language they get confused easily. For Garmin GPS Automotive units, Garmin has you do the following before sending it in for repairs:
1 - SOFT RESET
2 - HARD RESET (CLICK HERE to see instructions for either reset)
3 - UPDATE the device using their WebUpdater software (CLICK HERE for that) Garmin is the only company that offers repairs AFTER the warranty has expired. They offer a FLAT RATE REPAIR service for units no longer in warranty. For Other GPS units please consult your owner's manual or their support site - as each model - and even manufacture dates - can lead to different reset procedures. TomTom

MAGELLAN NEXTAR does NOT offer any types of Firmware or map upgrades or repair services. Instead - they have an exchange program to update to a new UNIT for around the same price as a repair would be. CLICK HERE for more on that. WARRANTY on most GPS devices is 1 year from the date of purchase. Broken screens are considered ABUSE - and not covered under warranty. Finally - If your unit is on the charger for HOURS, You've tried both the car AND USB type charger, and you turn it on... it stays on for a minute (or so) then powers down or never comes on at all - the battery has lost it's ability to hold a charge and must be replaced. Looking around YouTube - you can get a tutorial on how to CAREFULLY crack open just about any GPS. The tool(s) necessary typically are included with the battery purchase. Typically batteries run about $25 +/-. NiCd batteries are meant to be energized once a month so they keep active, and don't build up deposits that lead to their premature failure. Unfortunately you can't. According to garmin it is not a user replaceable battery. It may be possible to send back to garmin to have it replaced.

If you have downloaded the WebUpdater from www.garmin.com, plug the unit into the computer with the USB cable, then run the program. It should locate the unit and any updates available. Let me know if this helps.

Head over to Garmin's website, and download WebUpdater.

Then update your unit using the provided instructions.

A 2010 disk will inlude all the previous updates and bring you right up to current date.

You do not need to purchase the previous disks. You can also use this link to install the Garmin Communicator Plug In which in turn will detect your C330 when you connect it to your computer.

The plug in will automatically search for suitable updates for the device. Simply follow the onscreen instructions from this link and please do leave a vote for this solution.

either use a car charger - or home PC USB charger from Garmin.
Off-brand cables tend not to work well - as they have voltage resistance and the sensitive equipment doesn't like.

The maps may just be unselected rather than gone. To select them press the spanner icon (Tools) then press Maps. At the bottom of the screen press Map Info and see if there's a map there. There should be a tick at the side of the map name. If there's not press the map name and the tick should appear. The map will then be selected and should be ok.
If you need to get a new map or map update connect your satnav to your computer. Go to www.garmin.com. If you have already registered your satnav click on myGarmin and then on myMaps. (Details on how to register are below) Your map should be shown there and if there's an update available click on GET UPDATE to download the updated map. If there's no update and you need to buy a new one click on Shop For More Maps and select the ones you want. Follow the prompts.

TO REGISTER YOUR SATNAV
Go to www.garmin.com and select your country. Click on myGarmin and then on Register Your Garmin Product. You'll be asked to create a username and password. Keep them safe as you'll need them anytime you want to update your maps.

This is common, actually very common. The electronics are overheating inside the unit. Specifically the actual screen. This is a widely known issue. Even the infamous IPAD has the same issue. Just an FYI

The internal battery, that only Garmin can change. It would cost $125 just to send the unit in if it needed work outside of the warranty period.....hopefully the battery will last about five years.If you get it replaced from Garmin. If still you want to void the warranty and get it opened then there is step by step images shown how to open the unit.But that actually damages the unit. Sounds like a windows XP home problem.

Usually a reset will fix this. Make sure it has a clear view of the sky and ful charge or on the charger. reset and let it download and install new catalogs. Then it should be able to restart normally and know where it is.

my gps is a 340 looks alot like 330 but on the back of myen it says 340 how ever i need the slip that holds the gps and take the connection cord i tryed best buy and oll loccations that i can think of can you help me [email protected]
