Do internal speakers need to be off for external speakers to work

I have found in some instances my external speakers need to be off. Mostly if I use my smart TV on Netflix or Amazon Prime. If you have external speakers attached it is better to turn off internal speakers.

Picture cut off on sides, how do i shrink picture to screen?

If model listed is correct the problem is in power supply or vertical or horizontal circuits. If cut off on sides (horizontal) and bowed on sides it is a pincussion problem. IF short top and bottom a vertical issue--if both it is in the power supply.Model listed is rather old and parts may not be available for it.

Rabbit ears to digital conversion box

Your TV is old enough to have not only screw terminals for the antenna, but it sounds like it has separate UHF and VHF terminals as well. Pick up a 75-ohm to 300-ohm adapter (available at Radio Shack and probably most other places that sell TV's and antennas). This is a small cylinder-shaped part with a threaded antenna connector on one end, and a flat wire with two terminals on the other end. Connect the cable from the converter box to the round connector, hook the two terminals to the VHF antenna screws on your TV, put the TV on channel 3 and you'll be set.

You should also pick up a new antenna designed to work with digital broadcasting. If you use the old rabbit ears you were using before, you will probably not pick up all the channels available in your area.

35 in. GE tube TV volume issue

The front panel control assembly, or the circuit area for this panel most likely has a fault condition.

I have also seen some of the button switches fail on the control panel.

GE 35GT740 35" NO SOUND

Did you try turning up the volume on the remote or front panel?

Also, try unplugging the TV from the AC outlet for about 15 seconds to make the TV do a re-set.

Beyond this, there is most likely a failure and the set will require service.

Rabbit ears to digital conversion box

A long time ago I used to see adapters that would allow a 75 ohm to 300 ohm connection for the older TV sets. These may not be easy to find anymore.

Considering all things practical and the age of the set, there comes a time when it is the time to get a new set! At least the new set will be compatible and you will be able to enjoy a better quality of performance.

Does the GE 35GT740 model have a digital tuner?

As far as I know, this set DOES NOT have the required tuner capability. Please note that the changeover only effects those using rabbit ears or a rooftop antenna. If you have cable or satelite, no change will be seen. The change over is from an analog broadcast signal to a digital one. Your set has a digital tuner that expects an analog input signal.

Hope this helps,
Dan

Commercial Skip Feature

When a commercial comes on, you press the "Commercial Skip" button on the remote. Then you see a 30-second countdown timer appear on the screen. If you think there will be more than 30-seconds of commercials, then press the button more (each time you press adds 30 seconds to the on-screen timer -- usually I press it 4 to 5 times). The timer stays counting down on the screen while you change channels during the commercials to see what else is on. When the timer counts down to 0, it is erased from the TV screen and the TV automatically changes you back to the channel it was on when you pressed the commercial skip button. I use this feature a lot! I wish all TV's had it built in. Some universal remotes have a similar (but more awkward feature) where the remote has the timer inside it, and it sends a signal back to the TV when the count is up, but I don't think this would work as well.

GE 35gt740-powering up and shutting off by itself

The first step is look for a small coil, L14401, one side connected to the horizontal output transistor and the other side connected to the small horizontal drive transformer. Resolder both pins of the coil and the 4 pins of the drive transformer. Let me know if that cures the problem.
