I have a good Philips Universal the code is 1908 Press Code Search until red light comes on Press VCR/DVD light flashes Press 1908 Light goes off It should work.

Here is a link to a site that has the instructions and codes for a jr 300 which works the same as a JR400. How do I know? I had the same problem as you and this is how I solved it. Good luck!
