Motorola DCP-501 Receiver Questions & Answers
Motorola DCP-501
- Likely there is a little battery inside that has lost its juice, or possibly a capacitor that just lost its charge from lack of being powered for a year. No power=no memory=lost settings. You might open it up and look around for a small hearing aid type battery. If you find it, replace it and you will probably be good to go. if it is a capacitor that has leaked its charge, download the schematic from somewhere online, print it out and bring the schematic and unit to your local service guy where he will charge you at least $75 for labor for a $1 part install. Your best bet is to go out into an open area - free of trees, tall buildings, etc. A field is ideal. Switch the GPS on and wait. Most GPS units will cold start in 3 minutes or less. If the GPS has moved 100s of miles since it last had a fix, it may take a little while - but should not need more than 5 minutes.

No Sound on a Motorola DCP-501
You don't say what else works. Have you tried it with FM to eliminate external source causes? Does your TV get audio passed through to it? That would establish that there is program material to be amplified. Headphones work?
The following is from the User Guide -
Check to make sure that each speaker has been properly connected to the
speaker output jacks on the rear panel of the DCP501.
Check that the speakers are working by utilizing the Test Tone function as
described in the “Operation” section.
Verify that the DCP501 has not been placed in MUTE mode.
Check that the volume control on the DCP501 has been adjusted to an
appropriate listening volume.
Verify that the DCP501 is set to the correct source (CATV, VCR, DVD, Tape,
etc).
If the front panel displays O V E R L O A D , one of two things has happened:
1 If the DCP501 detects the speakers have a short circuit, it shuts down
the amplifiers. Switch the DCP501 off, remove the short circuit, and turn
the DCP501 back on. The DCP501 should now work as normal. If
O V E R L O A D is still displayed, a short circuit condition remains.
2 If the maximum amplifier output power is exceeded, the DCP501 shuts
down the amplifiers. Turn down the volume a little and switch the
DCP501 off and then switch the DCP501 back on and the DCP501
should now work as normal. If O V E R L O A D is still displayed, turn the
volume down some more.
The Speaker Setup menu has a Speaker Reset (to default settings) option.

It takes registration of the unit to receive them and it would be unethical and illegal to post a way to hack them here...
The clear protective film on the DCP501 display must be removed and transferred to the inside back cover of your
DCP501 Home Theater System User Guide. The Unit Address and Serial Number found on the protective film is
required for activation of your DCP501 cable TV receiver by your cable TV service provider.
Can't get any audio to
These are conflicting statements. 1) "Can't get any audio to come out from the receiver at all." 2) "...just can't get any audio to come out of the Video 2 function...".
Which is it? Have you got audio output from any source(s) or not? Test tones, for example? FM?
Are you certain there is audio present on the output of theTV and that it is assigned? If so, have you tired the same source on the other optical digital input (Optical 1)?
