PT51HX40B seeing shadow

Projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Below are more details for both items. Also, complete repair kits with instructions and repair support are avail from site such as www.TvRepairKits.com Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone outProjection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem. Common Symptoms include....
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. The power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some pics of convergence problems. 7859b01.jpge87380c.jpg 69189a5.pngSOLUTION #1What you will need to do is convergence. You can get a repair kit from TvRepairKits.com . It includes replacement parts, step by step instructions, support, etc.Common Problem #2) CRT Fluid is CloudyProjection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images. Remote control

Harmony makes a really good universal remote that plugs into your computer. You enter the make/model # of your equipment and all (or most) of the equipments features are available on the remote. I use 1 remote for 7 components and it has an activity button that when pressed will turn on all components associated with that activity IE "Watch DVD" will turn on DVD player, T.V. and set it to proper channel or input and turn on the stereo and set it to the proper output.

Repost last comment on pt-47wx53g problem

Hi, I post here my last comment, follow the diagram at page 44, leave the checkup at page 16, for some of the test you need raster, and the TV is in protection mode now.
From protection mode follow troubleshooting diagrams, I think is page 44/45.
There are many faulty component that can give you blank screen with no raster, the strange things is that the TV stays on, has sound and is not on protect.

Test also the sygnal boards (the ones with the AV connectors) and see if it makes any difference switching the signal to a different input, this TV has several ICs that manage the video signal, testing blindly will give no help. Follow the diagrams on manual.

I think the following was my last comment:
-----------------------------------------------------------------

You need to follow the troubleshooting charts at page 44 of user manual.
(download the service manual here)

Regarding the jungle chip, that is just a familiar name for the main computer CPU, service manuals rarely call it Jungle chip. Your jungle Chip is the main processor, IC4511, be careful handling the component arount the IC4511, some IC in there is sensible to static charges in your hands, better to keep fingers away.

In your case I would start testing following the diagram at page 44 of SM. I will also test the pico fuses at the base of convergence ICs, if the STKs had been replaced
That is what you do when the nature of the problem is not clear.

Since there is no protection mode on, the fault
can concern IC3001 and IC3002 that are vidio processors, and other parts involved.
If at any point you get the led on, and TV going in protect mode, with a flashing led, that is a step forward, means that the jungle IC (The IC4511) had detected the fault.

Start testing following the procedure at page 44, or same page on your version of service manual.

It wont turn on. power

Hi Smith,

2 flashes of the LED light is an error code for "Low DC voltage". The output voltage of the power supply is not normal(dropped) and the caused of this fault is a leaky/dried filter electrolytic capacitor on that section.

Leaky electrolytic capacitor has a physical indication of fault like bulged/dome at the top and can be easily identify through visual inspection. See sample picture below.

jdvillanueva_129.jpg

If you're handy with electronics and know how to solder and desolder parts on the board, check the power supply for obvious leaky capacitor. If you've found them, replaced it with same capacitance and working voltage that is printed on its body itself. Watch the video below for more info regarding electrolytic capacitor.

Dried electrolytic capacitor has no physical indication of fault, you must have a capacitor checker/tester to determine its condition or you may replaced all electrolytic capacitor in the output of the power supply, it will not caused you much because this is one of the cheapest part on that board(cost only $4 at the most).

Hope I helped you.
Have a nice day!
Thanks for using Fixya.
