The machine has a functionality
Hi,
Based on the information provided, I understood that you're using the HDMI cable for viewing the videos from the VHS Tape. It is not recommended to view the VHS tapes using the HDMI cable, as the HDMI cable is the High-Definition cable and the VHS tape is playing back the analog videos recorded in the magnetic tape. It is always recommended to use the AV (Yellow-Video, Red and White-Audio) cable for viewing the VHS part of the Combo unit.
The black bars appear at the bottom of the video may be due to the distorted tape or the dirt in the head unit. This can be adjusted using the tracking option in the VCR.
Please feel free to get back to us for further assistance.
Thanks for using FixYa.

VHS cassette accepts and ejects with kir..r...r
First of I think you have a K-Deck mechanism. If you do a Google search for "Panasonic K-Deck" you should find the free information. If you can't you will need to E-Mail me.This sounds like a a timing problem, perhaps caused by some damage to the Cassette Holder. The mode switch could be part of the problem too. They are quite tricky to set up to get the timing right, I do know the Cassette has to be inside the machine to set it up. The good news is that parts are easy to get hold of, so if any thing is damaged it can be replaced. Curry's partmaster is a good place for parts.

I have the remote the date etc. programmed OK but how do I set up the actual recorder with undefined
Panasonic are very good at having free PDF copies of user manuals. However if you just want to playback old tapes then all you need do is connect the vcr to a TV and press play. You might need to adjust the tracking using the controls on the remote. But the picture should play. If you see snow on the screen, but can hear sound, then the tape heads will need to be cleaned. You can get a VCR cleaning tape for that.

The heads are inside the VCR. You can buy from your Local dealer a VHS head cleaning cassette that should solve the problem. Normally I would recommend going inside the VCR to clean it with Servisol Video 40, but in your case I would stick to the tape!

Connecting VCR ,cable box, TV
First connect the cable box to TV using HD-cable (if connection available) or component cable (three leads) observing the colors. Connect cable box to VCR with an S-video cable or SCART if you have an S-video out scart. Connect VCR to TV with another S-video cable (round connectors) or with a scart to an S-video in scart connection. If you are in the US, the scart connections don't apply.

I can't say for certain but it sounds like the video head might have gone. The good news is that you can get the parts from Curry's Partmaster website. Perhaps cheaper elsewhere? The bad news is that video heads are not cheap! I don't know how you cleaned the head. So I would advise trying again to make certain. I would recommend cleaning with Servisol Video 40 several times. If that still doesn't work I would assume the head to have gone.

When I put inthe video into the video it at once reject it..
Reset if exists will not help---if machine instantly ejects the tape there is a problem in the mechanism.A look inside with top cover removed will likely reveal tape is not going all the way down or not being pulled out of the cassette and the machine will sense this and kick the tape back out. Most common cause for this a bad loading belt or something in the mechanism that is not moving. It can be a do it your self fix if a belt etc.

I took out some 2001 9/11 taped back then.
You can purchase a VCR cleaning tape that will do the job. However the best way is to buy a can of Servisol Video 40 (small one will do and it will last a long time) then remove the top cover of the VCR. Spray the VCR heads. Shinny Silver things and any moving parts that the tape touches. If your not certain what to clean, with the cover off insert a tape and press play. Remove the tape and spray small amounts on the surfaces. If you can see a lot of dust you can wipe the heads etc with a cotton bud. A VCR housed in a smokers house will need extra work to get it clean. Once dry you can test a tape. If you see flecks or spots the VCR will need further cleaning.

C an a VHS recorder still work for digital?
Yes! All you need to do is get a box and connect it via the other scart socket. When you want to record anything set the timer to record in the same way as before, but change the channel to the AV socket the box is connected to. If the VCR has a PDF setting switch it to off. Remember to allow extra time either side of the programme you want to record. And leave the box on of course! Set top boxes are cheap by the way.
