1. First, make sure your laptop has USB 2.0 hi-speed ports installed on it (If you are not sure if these are installed on your laptop, check your laptop's user manual).

If your computer is still not recognizing it, try connecting your device to a desktop PC. If the desktop PC recognizes your device, then the problem is coming from the USB ports on your laptop. They may not have the amount of power needed for the device to connect to your laptop. If the PC desktop doesn't recognize the device, then the problem is that one of the drivers in the Archos is defective (not working anymore). Once that happens, the only way the device can work again is if the defective driver gets replaced. BE SURE NOT TO DELETE YOUR FIRWARE, ONLY THE SONGS,FILES,ETC.

Hook up your mp3 player to your computer
Go to your desktop and double left click on "My Computer"
When it opens you will see listing that says "Devices with Removal Storage" your mp3 player should be listed there.
Right click on your mp3 player, and a window will open, right click on "Open" and now your files/songs should be visible.
Hold the left click down and drag it across all the files/songs that you do not want this will highlight the files/songs you do not want, release,right click and then click on "Delete"
Now you mp3 player should be clear of the files/songs you do not want.
BE CAREFUL and do not delete files needed to operate your MP3 player.

Looks like file system error due to change of location or some system file missing.

In this case I'd suggest that you reset the player and remove all songs and then transfer them again to your MP3 player. It will work.

If you have a connection use a usb from the item to the computer, the computer should recognise your music player,

mavericks is finicky. what machine can you connect it to? try reinstalling iTunes. be sure to back up your music and files first.

try upgrading firmware.

If you have or can get a lend of another cable for it, try it incase your cable is bad.I have went through 5 for my 604 as they just stop working out of the blue and getting a new one sorted it.

Try to download VLC media player on your computer and try to play with it. If that works, you can use VLC, or you can download the K-lite codec pack for free from the internet too.

It is possible you could have burnt out the works if the charger you used is more power full than the proper one.
