How do u get the music free?

The free options are generally Limewire, Frostwire, Morpheus, and possibly Kazaa.

I do not recommend them for the following reasons:
1) They are virus-prone - make sure your anti-virus software is up-to-date.
2) Some ISPs will cut off your internet service if you use them, especially Limewire. They decided not to arrest people for using them - they told ISPs to punish the users by cutting off their internet service.

In 2005 and before, online music services were a good value. Today, they are rip-offs.

How do i download/transfer my rio carbo mp3 music

The Rio Carbon is completely incompatible with iTunes (which uses AAC format). It only accepts mp3, wma, and some WAV's. The Rio Carbon is still the best mp3 player I ever owned, but since Rio doesn't make them anymore, it will never be compatible with iTunes. You can use it with Rhapsody's Mp3 Only service, or any music service that gives you the files in mp3 format - but you can't sync the songs through the music service's "synchronize function" - you have to download the files to a location on your computer, and then use the Rio music Manager to transfer the songs to your device.

Rio Carbon Repair

I think you should keep looking for another solution, but what i know is that for out of warranty carbon players you can't get it fixed through rio/sonic blue, they will only replace it for a new one/remanufactured one for 99$. Here's a link to a previous post of someone who had the same problem as you: http://www.fixya.com/ThreadView.aspx?thid=101466&prdid=230965 Good luck

Pearl rio carbon mp3 player 5gig

The microdrive is probably broken. Some people have claimed that if you give the sides a sharp tap then it has worked again but if this doesn't work then you probably require a new player. I have managed to replace the microdrive with a CF card in my Rio carbon, this has worked for many people may not work for you (you can read this: Replace broken hard drive with CF card if you want to try)

Hope this helps,

The old songs had a fixed term license - opening the songs in Windows Media Player will invalidate them even if they were acquired legally at one point. You will have to find a mp3 converter or drm stripper, convert the songs, and reload them.

Transferring music to new pc

You must use the music transfer software that came with the CD (also avail on Rio website) - which will not load on newer, Vista running computers.

ErrMsg "There is insufficient space to index your content."

Normally when you format the Rio it does not actually remove the firmware so this may not have done anything. I would advise upgrading to the 1.95 or 3.04 firmware and format then and see if this sorts the problem.

Hope this helps,

Mowcius

Rio carbon 5 gig mp3

The Rio Carbon will not play songs from iTunes unless they are in mp3 format. If you cannot download the songs in this format then I would recommend a program such as mediacoder to convert the tracks. I don't know why iTunes was recommended for the Rio but I would just use drag and drop into the folder called Music on your Rio.

Hope this helps,

Mp3 player and access to iTunes

I would advise getting a new player now because although the Rio carbon was good in it's day it's kinda lacking in features and tech in comparison to other newer players. Although I have one I would not get another one unless I bought it cheap to repair my current one.

I am afraid that I do not know if the iTunes podcast transferal would work with other players as I have not ever tried it.

MP4's are a video format so they are not likely to replace mp3 audio files!

Personally I would not buy an ipod unless you want a lot of storage and then I would recommend an ipod classic but if you are wanting a smaller capacity player then I would recommend looking into the samsung players but it depends on what you like the look of. I like touchscreen devices so I would probably buy a samsung YP-P2 but it is intirely down to personal preference.

Hope this helps,

Rio Carbon 5 GB: Battery loses power fast when player is turned off

The battery is not normally something that wears out on a Rio Carbon but if it used and charged wrong then it can either be conditioned to a shorter time or wrecked. Because it goes flat when turned off but keeps charge when on makes me slightly confused but anyway... I would advise charging it up fully and then flatten it fully - just leave it playing while you're out or something. Do this a few times and this may solve your problem. This will put maximum charge into your battery and it might solve your problem. If not then try taking the back off and look for a short circuit or obvious hardware fault.

Hope this helps,

Volume settings on the Rio carbon

I'm afraid that there is not. What headphones are you using? I have found that when many people ask questions like that it is the headphones and not the player. People say that when using the 3.04 firmware (look in tips and tricks for this player), the volume is higher but I haven't noticed a difference personally.. When I put my Rio up to highest volume it would damage my hearing if I could put it up any higher and I can only hear people shouting when it is on full volume. Have you got another pair of headphones/earphones to try? You could buy some high ambient noise reduction earphones and this may help.

Hope this helps,

RIO Carbon

Here's a guide for you - sorry but i don't have any photos. If you look in the tips and tricks section for this product then I have previously posted a number of things that may help some of you. If not then send me a request and I will try to sort your problem out.

How to disassemble a Rio Carbon:

  • First take off the front plate (you may want to warm it up, not fry it, with a hairdryer to make the removal easier.
  • Then you will see near the bottom there are two holes which if you get a very small screwdriver then you can unclip 2 of the clips holding the back plate on.
  • Then pry your screwdriver between the back of your rio and the rubber and lever the back off slightly (you may want to get a cocktail stick/match stick etc. to keep this open) then on each side you should see two more metal clips holding the back plate on. Lever each of these clips and the back plate should pop off - don't force it or you might break the plastic.
  • Then you will be able to see the hard drive and the battery below it.
How to remove the hard drive:

  • Make sure your player is turned off and not plugged in.
  • Then carefully lift the drive out of its cradle/holder. It will be attached by a ribbon cable to the main circuit board.
  • At the bottom of the hard drive carefully lever the connector off the drive, make sure you do it evenly so as not to bend the pins if you want to be able to use it afterwards.
  • You will then be have a 5GB Microdrive and a Rio carbon shell.
  • You can then connect up your CF card or new Microdrive.
  • If connecting a compact flash card then you may want to put a bit of foam on top of it to stop it rattling in the case because it is slightly thinner than a Microdrive
Hope this helps you not to break your Rio even more when trying to fix it!
