Sony Walkman WM-D6C Personal Cassette Player - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
No sound coming out the headphones
Try the line out on the back of the unit and see if sound signal comes out there U must plug that into a preamp on your stereo the signal level is to low for the headphones to sound and if there is sound then u have a blown output amp in the headphones circuit!

Motor runs when stopped,
this is probably a internal issue, when the keys are pressed, there is a small spring loaded power connected that is pushed together to power the device on and has either got manky and sticky and stuck or spring has failed,
the unit would need to be opened and maybe able to be fixed with some switch cleaner

1.I use cassette player everyday....that
there are little rubber belts inside that attach the motor to the gears that turn the tapes or cd's. over time they stretch out and turn everything slower and slower. you can try replacing the belts, or finding the speed adjustment screw for the motor and turning it up. either one is usually more effort than its worth though. they just weren't designed to last for a long time.

What is this? NORMAL/DX and Cr02, METAL, LOCAL
These are different types of Cassette media available. Normal is regular cassettes. CrO2 is Chromium Dioxide coated. Metal is FeCr, FerriChrome or something like that. I forget what the Dx is, another type of regular media, I think, or a different type of recording type.

I have a sony walkman WM-3. It suddenly stopped
Please check for the belts if the battery you have installed is new and the set gives a hum on play. If not you will have to check the power switch, the mechanism switch and the line to the main board.
If the motor turns but not the capstan and the reel then change the belt, the rollers or the pulley. I hope this will get your set back to action. Good day

I have a Sony WM-D6C
Hi,
WM-D6C was marketed in 1984, I do have service/ schematics manual for this model but I do not think required replacement parts will be available any longer for such an old cassette player to solve its playback problem.
I can provide you service manual copy if that helps, rest would be your expertise to get it work.
Thanks.

Speedproblem. My wm-d6 walkman goes
Inside the unit, theres a capacitor or something on the circuit board that has a little phillips head screw area on it, that if you turn it either clockwise or counter clockwise, you can adjust the speed of the cassette playback. This is usually a silver metal thing sticking up somewhere inside kind of shaped like a letter "U'. the inside of the "U' is a round insert like I said with a phillips head screwdriver cut out. just turn that inner piece left or right while playing a cassette to your desired speed.

Hello. I just bought a
It seems that since the player in question has hardly any use on it, then it's likely a simple mechanical problem due to age and sitting still.
Put a drop of light-weight machine oil on each pulley head and each spindle. Also clean the pinch rollers and guides with isopropyl alcohol on a cotton swab. Then without a cassette loaded, run it in fast fwd and reverse for about ten seconds. Then open it back up and make sure that none of your machine oil you lubricated with splattered onto the playback head.
