Dvd recorder sony do not open
Try inserting a paper clip in the small hole on the face of DVD device. Make sure nothing is obstructing the front of of the drive that would prevent it opening.
Hi - our RDR-gx3 powers
This seems to be a fault in the main board as it fails to switch on. It seems that the power does not switch on as the main processor has some errors that sends feedback to stop it from switching on.
The fault can be related to a short in the drive board, the power to the main board. If the connector to the main board is detached then the display must show up. If not you will need some basisc electronics to check the processor and circuits to confirm if there are any errors.
Also remove the power and allow some time for the set to drain voltages, when switching on press down the play button -- check the manual for the resetting pattern to reset the processor if it has hung up.
The front panel button jamming or other issues like the CD being jammed cannot make the power from coming up and then shutting down. So you will need to have the main board checked for fault. This being a complex area it is better to get opinions and estimate before you tamper to damage the board.

If your TV has progressive scan capability, you may be able to view the on-screen setup menu via the recorder - select 'SETUP' press 'ENTER' on your DVD recorder's remote to bring up the menu - with the remote arrow buttons, scroll down to select 'VIDEO' then 'PROGRESSIVE' - highlight it then set it to OFF (you cannot do this with a TV that does not support progressive scan from this unit). Once done, exit the setup menu and it should work fine with all the other settings. If your TV doesn't have progressive scan, connect the DVD recorder to one which does and turn its progressive output off there. I assume you still have the user manual for your recorder (if not, you can download it online for free as an Adobe document - .pdf. Page 73 details the setup steps for this model). I hope this tip helps somewhat.
Disc freezes after playing for about 1 hour.
Hi...
The unit needs to be opened ( and UNplugged)
then the rails that the DVD reader runs along need to be cleaned of any dust and debris.
A swab with some WD40 after , on the rails, wont hurt either.
If this helps, rate my help please.
Thanks
