I have a Sony model KV-32S26 that will not turn on, been sitting for about 2 years. Had a tv repair guy tell me it was the flyback transformer. If that's the case, can I replace it myself? Thanks

1) You must test the a) fuse b) c.breaker inside c) diode, d) rectifier e) transformer f) filter. g) IC. regulator voltage and test it. If the problem persist you must go to the horizontal problem by lack of RASTER, now you test the transistor horizontal power, flyback. If you have some experience with the electronic you can try. If do not, better go to the repair shop Tv. Since you can have a electric shock by H.Voltage discharge.God bless you

I have a sony tv

If the screen does the same thing with all sources (TV,VCR,DVD), then it is most likely the main control board. The cost to fix or replace it would be more than the cost of a new tv.

I have a Sony tv

Your TV has something shorted inside, and is not a direct short. If it was a direct short, the fuse have been blown. Through my experience I advise you to replace the Picture Tube base socket, which can be located at the picture tube base card. Some CRT base cards will poise this type of problem. as their contacts will worn out with time.

How much is it going to cost to repair a blinking tv.

Probaly, the cost to replace it would be less then the cost for replacement parts, it would be best to get a new tv.

TV comes on but after a while there becomes a

yes. has a pincushion circuit problem. since tv works and then starts to bow, its a bad solder connection. when tv warms up the metal expands and looses connection. when cold, the solder constricts and unit works fine. just solder deflection area. you can probably tap on board and locally find area to solder.

Sony KV-32S40 CRT Television

Read below and decide if you want to tackle the problem yourself if so I’ll help along the way with what info I have. If not contact the nearest repair shop armed with the info below.

A dead set (no picture no sound) can indicate any number of problems – Usually the set is in shutdown or protection mode – this means that the internal circuits have detected a problem with a supply voltage missing, drawing too much current, going over voltage or a short condition.
The first thing to do is power off the set unplug it for 5min. than replug and try again. This in effect resets the main micro and will sometime unlatch a fault and resume working. There are certain common problems based on the make model – for instance convergence output IC’s(CRT projection TV’s) can cause a dead set symptom in many models. Vertical output IC failure can also cause the same symptom (CRT standard and Projection).
The only way to determine the real cause is :
By an educated guess based on experience or by directly troubleshooting the set – checking fuses, measuring voltages and checking for shorts. Many of the intermittent problems such as, int.(Intermittent) no sound or picture, int. picture shrunken or misshaped. These problems are generally due to cold (bad) solder joints (all TV’s and electronics) that break down under slight temperature changes or vibration and are usually verified by physically tapping the suspected area on the circuit board, or by quickly heating or cooling a suspected component or area ( cold spray and hot air gun). The other main culprit is leaky or dried out capacitors or capacitors that change value depending on temperature. These can sometimes be seen as bulged or leaky and have an acrid odour. Be sure to vote/rate me if this helped Thanks!

35 inch Sony Trinitron, worked great, then went off w/o warning.

Most of the time the Horizontal circuit fails and by design the Power Supply will also fail.
The smell was one or more components burning
or over heating.
There is a good chance it will be a costly repair.
Hope this helps,

Sony kv32s26 While tv was off (had been for 10

The switch mode power supply has failed in it. That section also provide standby voltage for your TV so that it will turn on when you use the remote. These power supply are driven by Field Effect Transistors, switching at up to 200 thousand times per second, and they are very efficient. There is a transformer usually that has ferite for a core. The Transistor has shorted out on it, and thats where the burning smell came from along with the resistor. The transformer may have been burnt too. It is possible for a someone to fix it, but he/she would have to be familiar with electronic components on television. It is not a job for a handy man type of guy.

Volumne very low & high pitched back round noise (sony trinitron)

Many Sony sets use a stereo processing integrated circuit (IC) that causes this problem when it goes bad. The part is an SBX-1637-11 and is available from several parts suppliers. One I use a lot is MCM, and their page for this part is here.

Changing the IC is not difficult if you have some experience working with soldering electronic parts. If you're not comfortable with the idea of doing this yourself, a TV shop could do the repair and the cost would be much less than a new set. It would definitely be worth repairing if the picture still looks good to you.
