Sony KV-32S26 32" TV - Page 2 Questions & Answers
Sony kv32s26 While tv was off (had been for 10
The switch mode power supply has failed in it. That section also provide standby voltage for your TV so that it will turn on when you use the remote. These power supply are driven by Field Effect Transistors, switching at up to 200 thousand times per second, and they are very efficient. There is a transformer usually that has ferite for a core. The Transistor has shorted out on it, and thats where the burning smell came from along with the resistor. The transformer may have been burnt too. It is possible for a someone to fix it, but he/she would have to be familiar with electronic components on television. It is not a job for a handy man type of guy.
Volumne very low & high pitched back round noise (sony trinitron)
Many Sony sets use a stereo processing integrated circuit (IC) that causes this problem when it goes bad. The part is an SBX-1637-11 and is available from several parts suppliers. One I use a lot is MCM, and their page for this part is
here.
Changing the IC is not difficult if you have some experience working with soldering electronic parts. If you're not comfortable with the idea of doing this yourself, a TV shop could do the repair and the cost would be much less than a new set. It would definitely be worth repairing if the picture still looks good to you.
Tv screen has slight hourglass shape
A common fault are some of the electrolytic capacitors failing in the pin cushoning amp section, and probably in part of the scan amplifiers.
To service this will require the proper training and set-up to troubleshoot the set.
Take the set to a service center for an estimate. The cost can be at least an hour or two for the labour, and then the cost of the parts on top.

TV does not turn on
If you have no indication of power(no lights,no clicks) the main fuse is a good place to start but if he is blown and is black in color you will have a shorted component ahead in the circuit and if you replace the fuse it will blow up as soon as you plug the set in,in all honesty since you are not too familiar with tv service you should be safe and seek the assistance of a servicer.
Cant locate or adjust the the TV color
All the controls should be accesed thru the on screen menu, your remote should have a menu or display button and if you press it on the screen of the tv you should see a list of different options ,I am not familiar with the kind of menu that your set has but I know the color adjustment should be in the same screen that allows you to change the brightness, shapness, tint, color and contrast, the more you use the menu and become familiar with it the easiest it will be to use.Let us know if you need more information.
Picture flickers on and off
Sounds like a typical sony that has a cold solder connection in or on the horizontal driver transformer or the output transformer. If your not a tech I woulf HIGHLY advise that you take or call an expert in to assit you with this repair . Good Luck
Multiple video inputs
Unfortunately, you cannot use the connectors at the same time. The S-Video connector overrides the standard video connector. This is why they share common audio left/right inputs. If you could use them separately, they would each have their own set of audio inputs. (S-Video does not carry audio signals on the cable.)
I'm assuming that you are connecting your Satellite as an input to your VCR, and then your VCR to the TV via a video connection. The VCR passes the satellite signal through unless you are watching a tape, then it overrides the dish signal.
You have a few choices here:
1. You can connect the coaxial (RF) output from the VCR to the TV, and watch the satellite and VCR on channel 3 (or 4). You can then connect the DVD via S-Video, and watch it on "video". This is the simplest solution, and provides the best picture quality for the DVD (with this TV), but lower quality for the dish and VCR.
2. You can connect the DVD player via RF (if it supports that), watch the DVD on channel 3, and connect the VCR via video. This will make the DVD picture quality terrible.
3. You can replace the VCR with a combo DVD/VCR unit. You can then connect the S-Video out from the combo unit to the TV. This is a more expensive solution.
4. You can replace the TV with a model that includes more inputs. This is the most expensive solution, but will allow you to watch your DVD over component cables (very high quality) and VCR and dish over S-Video.
Ironically, the obvious choice, connecting the DVD as an input to the VCR (as a pass-through) simply WON'T WORK. The signal put out by the DVD player is "copy protected" (using a system called MacroVision) which the VCR will refuse to play, even as a pass-though.
Best of luck with this. Given that you are trying to make this all work without replacing equipment, I recommend option #1, until you decide to break down and buy a shiny new HDTV. They are coming down in price every week, but only you can decide when the time is right.
Tv will not light up.
I do not have expertise in cable TV systems. A power failure when you have the TV connected to a system which is normally always on or on standby may need resetting if interrupted.
Try the TV on an aerial or with its scart input, but disconnected from the cable unit. The blinking red light indicates a fault
Mitsubishi big screen
check the cable for the cable box
make sure the the white and black cable is in right
hit; black is in out white is in

Hi there!
Where you saw the Arcing, check closer to see wether the components are not loose on the board. You may only have to resolder the joints and problem solved. If the arcing takes place towards the tube, then you have a more serious fault. Thus involving High Tension, so I would not advise trying to repair that area if you are not familiar with TV repairs. Please unplug set before commencing any work. Regards and good luck, JUS004
