Kp-53hs20 will not power on. red light blinks 8
Hello,
The problem is from the main board of the television, there is a bad capacitor that needs to be replaced. The television is receiving power but is not using it that is why you have the red light blinking 8 times.
Once you open up the television, you will have access to the main panel, check for bad capacitors and replace them.
Having done this your television will be in good conditions once again.
Take care

Try adjusting the convergence. If it won't move see below- (or hitting Magic Focus for some Hitachi’s)
This sounds like convergence output IC problem. convergence board would have to be removed - remove and replace 2 STK IC's and check the surrounding resistors. Shops usually charge between $200-$400 Be sure to vote/rate me if this helped Thanks!

Sound but no picture is it the picture tube
most likely will not be the tubes mate, if the tubes go then you just get a big mix of red green and blue colours in the screen - sound but no picture is more likely to be the starter unit on the flat screen.
flat screens have a starter unit - mine went on a samsung but under warrenty

Sony PMB50HX1 - has sound, no picture
It sounds like either Y-sus or the X-sus pcb. These are usually fixed at board level and can be quite expensive. If your in Australia Speedy Spares in Melbourne should be able to supply these Boards. They are located on the left and right hand side of the panel and will be connected to the panel through smaller sub PCB's. The x and y sus boards are about 30cm x 20cm in size.
FADING TO BLUE SCREEN
Sounds like you have a problem with the blue gun in your picture tube or its drive circuit.
You might remove the back cover and gently tap on the neck of the picture tube using a plastic
screwdriver handle while watching the screen in a mirrow. If the picture flashes back on or on and off then the picture tube is the problem.
If this is a projection tv you have three separate tubes : red, green & blue.
you'd need to tap the blut one.Gently!!!!

KEEP FADING TO BRIGHT BLUE SCREEN
I'm about 90% sure it is the blue picture tube developing an intermittent heater to cathode short. I'm surprised the set isn't shutting down shortly after this happens. A service call will tell you for sure as it could also be a bad solder connection causing a similar symptom. My own procedure to check it out would be to GENTLY tap the neck of the suspected picture tube with a screwdriver handle to see if I could get it to come and go (Or get out my CRT tester and measure it with the power off). Obviously by holding the screwdriver blade you don't want to accidently short anything out as there is about 33,000 volts a few inches away from where I would be tapping. Nuff Said.
Red block in the middle
hi
You have dry joints.
Whack it hard on the side next time it starts going nuts and see if it comes back. That's always a good diagnostic tool for the pros. If it does, you have in intermittent connection that will deteriorate over time. If not, you could just have a bad convergence amp
good luck
