Does not power up
The most heavy set ever made by Sony----lots of possible reasons from a bad fuse--to a bad D board (deflection board) and a major hassle to just get it apart----These were rather expensive sets but now most of them are being recycled and replaced, if you have to have it fixed it will have to go to a shop etc which will just add to the repair costs. If not a fuse a home service call usually will be a waste of time and money. The last one of these we had used in our shop took four months to sell and sold for 250 dollars----a far cry from the original cost of this set when new.

Sony KV-40XBR700 40" CRT WEGA
I too would like to know the solution to this question...we are having the identical problem and Sony doesn't seem to know how to fix it. Although, the picture from the DVD player is perfect, the pictures for cable & video games are terrible. Very frustrating!
My standby light blinks 7
Hi,
The
Standby/Power light of the TV blinks when there is any internal malfunction in
the TV. The self-diagnostic function of the TV will cause the STANDBY light to
blink or flash when the television detects an issue. The number of times the
STANDBY light flashes corresponds to a specific issue.
Few
examples are given below; some of the issues may be resolved without the need
for service.
1 blink / 2 blinks / 5 blinks: - This indicates that there may be a
power-related problem with your set.
3 blinks: - This indicates that there may be a power-related problem with your
set. The set will need to be serviced to allow a technician to determine the
specific issue that needs to be repaired. If the power light flashes three
times in sequence in a Lamp TV, the lamp cover is not securely attached.
Reattach the lamp cover to resolve this issue.
4 blinks: - This indicates that there may be a back light or lamp power
problem.
6 blinks: - This indicates that there is some kind of audio problem with your
set.
7 blinks: - This indicates that there is a temperature problem with your set.
Please check to make sure that the air vents on the sides and back of the set
are not blocked or clogged and there is adequate ventilation around the
television. We recommend that you check and clean the vents periodically to
make sure the set receives adequate air flow. If the problem continues, the set
will need to be serviced.
8 blinks: - This indicates that there may be a video-related problem with your
set. If the flash sequence is not listed above or the light continues to flash,
follow the steps below to perform a power reset:
Try the following steps to check if the issue can be resolved.
Turn off the television.
Unplug the television power cord from the electrical outlet.
Let the television remain without power for 60 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet.
If
the television is plugged into a power strip or surge protector, remove it from
the power strip or surge protector and plug it directly into the wall outlet.
If the issue is resolved, the problem is with the power strip or surge
protector and not the television.
If
the issue continues to occur, service may be required.
Thanks
for using Fixya.
I have a sony xbr tv and after moving it, now THE
MAKE SURE NO SPEAKERS WITH BIG MAGNETS ARE ABOVE OR NEAR THE TOP OF THE SET--magnets can cause "purity" problems.
The set has a built in coil to correct this every time you turn the set on.
IF THE SET IN THE MOVE FELL FORWARD, IT MAY HAVE DAMAGED THE SHADOW MASK INSIDE THE TUBE.....
TWO REASONS FOR YOUR PROBLEM: COIL IN SET NOT WORKING FOR SOME REASON---ROTATE SET LEFT AND OR RIGHT AND SEE IF PURITY CHANGES OR BECOMES GOOD.
IF SO A MANUAL COIL CAN BE USED (CALLED A DEGAUSSING COIL) TO CORRECT IT--TAKES 5 SECONDS.
SECOND: SHADOW MASK IN TUBE (SCREEN) IS DISLODGED BY MOVE----THESE ARE VERY HEAVY SETS AND THE MASK IS EASY TO DAMAGE.
The mask is inside the tube and perforated with hundreds of tiny openings that line up with the phospher coating (stripes if you look close at set with it on) if mask got dislodged in move--damage is permanent.
If changing north, south, east or west position of front of set corrects it mask is good.
Unlike others who have bid I am answering this for free, if I told you something you did not know rate this free solution as very helpful.

Almost certainly it will be necessary to remove the set from any enclosure as access to its innards is gained by removing the rear housing completely.
If you feel around the back edge (hidden) of the bezel, I'm sure you will find several depressions; these are recesses for the screws that must be removed.
Sorry about your Sony problems, their quality has greatly diminished in recent years.
Sony KV-40XBR700
If the display seems normal when present, you may have what is called a 'cold solder joint,' possibly in the area of the horizontal power supply.
This can be caused by normal heating and cooling of a particular spot on the circuit board that finally fractures the solder and making the joint thermally sensitive.
Most component failures, even when intermittant, would affect the display in some obvious way such as distortion, contrast, brightness, etc.
Sony kv-40xbr800
Exact same problem. KV-40XBR800 wont turn on, blinks six times. I am in the process of changing both Ic's part# MCZ3001D with part# MCZ3001DB. Ordered them frm ebay and waiting for the new parts to arrive.
here are the pictures of both chips and after i removed them from the d board.
As soon as i receive the new ones i will put them in. I can't wait to see what happens and i wanted to say thanks to all of you out there for putting this thing up. Thank you very much.
TV not working
the symptom is usually caused by a breakdown in the power supply circuit. in most modern receivers (transistorized and/or ic), it may also be caused by a breakdown in the horizontal deflection circuits (hor. oscillator, pre-drive, or drive circuits). supply voltages for the tuner, video if,sound if, and vertical output are usually supplied by the horizontal output circuit. but if you doesnt know anything about these stuffs, better bring it to a qualified service tecnhician.
