Those blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. The Sony KV-36FS100 listed as the model number here DOES NOT HAVE A PANEL--uses a picture tube---if another model/brand let me know.As far as the broken buttons---they may be available as a unit or not depending on the age of the set.Getting an original remote would allow you to do without those--if you do not have the original remote (or it does not work) GOOGLE THE MODEL NUMBER OF THE SET WITH "remote" to locate a replacement.

You have to buy one HDMI to AV converter from local electronic spare part market.

Good day! almost sony tv's has this picture blinking problem most of the time their is a problem in the Ik cuircuit. you should have your tv service by a qualified service technician.

open thw back cover set unplug leave it discharge for a while and flip over the pc board and try to fin any cracked solder on the espescialy on the right side near the hig voltage transformer and near the power
supply and regulator you may find the bad one

There is a similar problem here.

At the rear or side of the PC there should be either or both of a 15 Pin DIN Plug, HDMI socket. or a Yellow RCA or 4 -7 pin DIN. Now IF these are present then YES you can connect to a TV. Now some TV's have a connector a DB15 MALE, so that the cable from the PC to the TV, is DB15. this plugs in directly, with appropriate DB15 cable. This, however, will ONLY take the VIDEO to the TV, Audio is delivered via the "Audio Out" Jack on PC, and Plugged into the AV Sockets on the TV, with a dual cored coaxial cable, they are Red & White. Some PC's also have a Yellow RCA Connector, OR a 4 -7 Pin DIN Socket, that requires a Special Adapter Cable (That generally came with the unit, and are colored and marked as to output) to use, for Video/Audio Out to TV. This signal is Composite or SVHS Video & Stereo Out. This connects up TO the TV's Composite/SVHS input Jacks and the Red & White Audio IN, RCA Jacks, &/or DIN SVHS socket.
First you need to know if your PC can output to a TV. Then you need to get the adapter & cables that connect the PC to the TV. Then you need the correct TV drivers installed for your video card. When they are all installed, you need to "Enable" that Monitors, the TV's, Desktop. You need to set either a "Cloned" display or "Spanned, Extended Desktop". Go to "Display Settings" Now ensure the TV/Monitor connected has the correct input/output display settings. Adjust the screens resolution via the resoloution "Slider", it is best to start with, 800x600 32 bit color. or even lower. and once working OK, THEN increase to max resolution, your TV can handle, find out from manual. Once it is all connected up. It should all just work great. Now, from then on, &, to get it to work every-time, the process is. Turn everything OFF. Connect the leads between PC & TV, Turn the TV, ON. Then, startup the PC up. It should "Detect" that it has TWO "Monitors" ie: One Monitor & One TV/Monitor, & you should see your desktop appear after a bit. Now you have screen 1 & screens 2. Now, if you are using "Cloned" mode, then whatever is displayed on the Master monitor, will be displayed on the TV. If you used Spanned, mode, in this mode, however, you will have to."Drag" the Video window, over to the TV, and it is though, you have one "Big Desktop". Now IF using Nvidia or ATI then BOTH of those have thier OWN, Control Panel, this, all then can make it all a lot easier to do it. So I would suggest that this method be used. But if you get stuck, or just want to do it by hand, then the the "By Hand" method is the only way.There is a great program called MultiMon, this allows great control over dual displays, and is well worth installing. Usually you set the resolution to say 800x600 32bit color, also ensure your video format is right USA, NTSC, Europe, PAL. Hertz is up to 100Hz. Usually thought the TV will handle all that.

This is one of the typical signs of a tired power supply; this is probably not and expensive repair since this behavior is often caused by a cheap part (capacitor).
If you are feeling adventurous, you can probably find (at least) the area where the failing part is located.
You would need a can of 'freeze spray' from an electronic supply store and a hair dryer. When capacitors have lost value or gained too many losses, these can be influenced by raising or lowering their temperature.
NOTE: Once you remove the back panel and turn of the power, there will be dangerous voltages exposed so keep fingers clear of any parts.
Look for an area of larger capacitors (cylindrical parts mounted 90 degrees to the board) and a medium large transformer. Not the largest black object, this will be the flyback transformer that produces the high voltage for the tube and the signal that moves the trace back and forth across the screen.
With the power turned on, try shooting the smaller capacitors near that medium-sized transformer. Try spraying them one at a time and waiting 10-15 seconds for the part to 'soak' up the cold; the big ones take longer of course.
If this turns up no part you can influence, then try with the hair dryer, again allowing time for reaction and try to aim at only a few parts at a time. Obviously, this is not going to be as directed as was the freeze spray.
If you locate a general area you can influence by alternate cycles of cold and heat, you are pretty close to the failing part.

dont blame your son. not his fault. kv36fs models have a switching power supply that does at times go out. there is a sony kv36fs power supply replacement kit that costs roughly 10 bucks to replace the 2 switching transistor, two fuses, two thermistors,... easy fix

If the TV goes in standby, then it is in protection mode.

Ensure also that the fault is not coming from a faulty receiver box sending
bad signal, check if you get same problem on DVD with no receiver box
connected.

Try first leaving the TV power cord unplugged for some times, let say one hour or so.

The flashing light indicates a diagnostic state called protection.
When the TV goes on protection there are only two possible causes.

1The internal circuits are jammed because of electrostatic charges accumulating on capacitors, or because of a wrong voltage read by the main chip on your monitor controller board. this started the protection circuit.

2 The protection circuit detected a wrong voltage or abroken contact, identified an internal fault and kicked in , starting the flashing light.

If you are in situation one, then the TV will reset just unplugging power cord for one or two hours,sometimes even minutes.

If you are in situation 2 , then there is an internal fault.

If under warranty contact the manufacturer ringing the number on the user manual

On LCD Pay particular attention at inverter and power board, power board can be inspected looking for bulged or leaking capacitors, then tested with a multimeter. The inverter is more difficult to test , there is need to read voltages, should be done by a tech. Also the LCD controller board can cause same problem

On Plasma, test Sustain (Ysus/Zsus) / Buffer boards , cables to plasma, digital board and power board.

On Rear Projection : check lamp, lamp ballast, power board, and convergence.

On CRT TVs, check ballast , flyback transformer, CRT, Tuner, Convergence.

My picture would go out after several minutes but I still had sound. I took the rear cover off and blew all the dust off with compresed air.I did this for a few times over several days nothing happened.I also took off the rear circuit board that attaches to the tube with a round pin socket and blew that with compressed air and put it back on. The TV has now worked for two days without the picture going out. It worked!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My TV is 9 years old.
