From the symptoms you describe, it seems the high voltage flyback autotransformer has failed along with the horizontal amplifier (they are slaved to each other). This could have happened during the moving process. The sound comes from the flyback unit. I guess it must be a high pitched squeal, actually...

Well, the only way to solve this is to get a technician take a look at the set, I'm afraid. Repairs could cost upto $100 or more, depending upon the number of components that need to be replaced,

Since the set is new, it may be worth getting fixed up. If you decide to do so, call around, as shops have different rates and different expertise. Many shops are hurting for work because so many of the smaller sets are never repaired anymore; they are just thrown out and replaced since the cost of a new set is sometimes as low as the repair expense.

Hope that helps...Should you have any further questions, please feel free to post them here.

P.S. Before you assign a rating, please make sure that the issue is resolved or you are satisfied. If not, please post back as to what you did, and/or any other questions you may have, and I will try to assist you as best I can. Please do not assign an ‘Inappropriate’ or ‘Thanks for trying’ rating if your issue is not resolved after the first response itself, as sometimes a bit of to and fro dialogue may be necessary before we can find a fix or an answer to your query.

If you find that the solution/answer I provided led you to, or resulted in a fix, please close the ticket with a FixYa! rating. I would be very grateful for your show of appreciation.

Thank you for using FIXYA!

This is usually an indication that the picture tube is starting to fail. A short term "cure" is to increase the screen voltage a bit. This is done by opening up the back and turning the screen control on the flyback transformer clockwise slightly. The flyback if the large part with the red wire coming out of the top that goes to the side of the picture tube. Please note that you only have to turn this control slightly. Ity should be the top control on the two on the flyback. The other is for focus. Also note that there is extremely high voltage there (15,000V) that can be dangerous. If turning up this control resolves the problem, you have bought yourself time to find a replacement only.

Sony FD Trinitron

In most cases when I have seen this type of fault, the CRT was getting very weak. When the emission is below a specific amount, the AKG circuits keep it biased off.

It is also possible to have defective components in the CRT bias circuits, high voltage area, and the scan amplifiers that can cause this symptom. This type of condition is more rare to cause a flashing screen as per your description.

--

The TV making some clicks, and the red LED flashing is an indication of the power supply going in to the protect mode. This is usually from a scan amplifier failure, or a high voltage failure, a short in one of the circuit areas, and or a defect in the power supply itself. Proper troubleshooting is required to determine the exact fault.

Tv overvoltage

Normaly there will be much more damage than the internal fuse. On this model, if I can remember correctly, there is a pig-tail fuse that is solder connected to the circuit board. When this fuse is blown, normaly there are serious problems in the power supply or some other areas of the set.

It would be best for you to take the set to a service center to have it properly checked and have an estimate. I have had your described situation before. Most of the time the set would be very expensive to service in this type of case.

Sony Trinitron color TV 36 inch

hello,

You should examine the input power of the TV. If you dare to open the back of the TV You should examine the by using the tester to test the continuity of the voltage input of the TV. i guess voltage regulator need to be tested.

Be careful high voltage inside the TV.

The best way is to contact the vendor of the TV or sony service center in your area.

may this help,

Awesome, glad to help. IT is a common thing to happen. They just don't build em like they used to. The boards are getting thinner, the mountings are getting less, and the casings are getting more flexible. Good on YOU for fixing it. :)

How many flashes is it flashing. usually when you have audio but no video its a vertical deflection problem. Try resoldering the vertical output IC to see if that helps.
