when i turn my tv on i hear sound but no picture.then about 2 minutes later the picture comes on then goes off comes on then goes off it does this for about 5 mintues then the picture stayed on.in the last week the picture comes and goes more often .last about 10 seconds between on and off .i have notice more red in my picture.tv repair man told me sony does this cause the tube is going bad. is he telling the truth or is it something else?
The on and off conditions is repairable and is not the tube,you should have it check out for loose conections and try not to use it or it will go bad for good and the repair will become expensive,Check power supply,horizontal driver transformer and crt board,If you are not familiar with tv service be safe and call for help.

standby light blinks 8 times then some times blinks 9 times no noise at all like will not even try to power on tried unplug for 1 min and 4 hour no help
Use a hair dryer on the back right side of unit. Humidity sensor may be causing the unit to stay off. The hair dryer may also remove dust causing a false humidity detection

My Sony Trinitron Wega kv-36fs120 wont turn on, standby/timer LED flashes 9 times. Occasionally the tv comes on but wont cycle on/off again. I've tried leaving it unplugged for over 24 hours, no difference. Any ideas?
1. Place set on flat solid surface (garage floor or driveway).
2. Bang into it with SUV 3 or 4 times.
3. If set fails to respond, crush against garage wall or drive over it

Stanby button flashes. TV will not turn on. I have tried unplug it and turning it back on and still the same problem. How do I resolve this.
This unit shouldb e flashing a repeated count on the standby light. That count will indicate the circuit in which a problem was detected causig the shutdown. Please post that count and we should be able to provide details on the repair.

The video one will not go off in the upper left corner of the screen, i see alot of people with the same problem and the answer is normally to take the original remote and press the display button but my problem is that i do not have the original remote and cant find a way to turn it off though the tv.
If you have a cox cable digital cable remote, hit info to turn off the video 1 or 2. Judjing that this is a cox cable remote, and not a sony trinitron remote, other remotes that have some kind of programmable function built in can proly turn turn that off

Hi all - we bought this TV over 10 years ago and it has been a terrific tv. Lately tho the picture will simply flicker to black for a second or two and then flip back to a normal picture. Picture is crisp and clear just flips to black for a few seconds. It used to be really sporadic but the flipping to black and then back to the normal picture is getting more and more frequent. What is causing this? Can/should it be fixed?

connect PS3 to Sony Trinitron. We connected with the PS3 provided AV Cable to the front Audio/Video jacks but cannot get a picture on the TV screen. Not sure what we are doing wrong.
easy breezy fix, you have to force the ps3 to acknowledge that tv is not hdmi, it is just hd. press and hold power button for 5 seconds on ps3 until you hear 2nd beep and let go. settings will come up for ps3, switch to hd. done

my sony tv has sound but no picture and the standby/timer red light wont stop blinking.
My T.V. wouldn't turn on. The standby light was flashing six times, then four, then seven...I called Sony and they told me to unplug it for a couple of minutes, then try it again...didn't work....BUT, I have found a solution:
Try unpluging your T.V. for 4 hours+, then turn it back on. Worked for me! It's called a "hard reset" by sony. I had my T.V. unplugged for the whole day though.

This is picture tube related problem and we call it incorrect white balance.
Adjust Screen Volts of picture tube and control knob wold be located on flyback transformer. If you have knowledge about tv and know that tv contains high voltage and you can take care of that then do it yourself or ask local tv repairman to fix it.

continuous flashing red light on sony trinitron television
These blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. Count it carefully. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. It has details about blinking codes, and fault locating procedure, to many popular brand TVs and other devices.
