Buddy that thing needs resoldering job on it's crt connector board some cold solder,cause the problem(red to normal) comes in and out.So if you can't do it,try to see qualified friend to do so...Thanks Dods..

This is the SMPS Power suply drive and the IC fails ONLY if there is fault in the circuit. You need to check on the SMPS section

Next you need to check if the LINE output transformer has failed. If so this will have a higher current drain and so switch off the SMPS unit. check for the EHT drivers, capacitors in the HT circuit.

does the TV bring out sound even as the screen display is dark?

Problem should be from the TV lamp/bulb. When a TV bulb/lamp is dying, it makes the pictire on the screen become dark and very hard to see.

Have the lamp replaced and hopefully, your screen should be perfect as before.

Let me know if you need directions in replacing the lamp, even though it is very simple replace.

You have a bad video cable connection or video card has failed. Try unplugging the cable and or relacing it. If not it may be your video card.

first things first make sure your power outlet has power by plugging in something else and make sure the power outlet isn't controled by a light switch. hope this works for ya.

First check that any muting control is not activated. This might be a button on the remote or set itself. If you have a headphone jack, it may have dirty contacts as plugging in a headphone usually mutes the speaker.

If the set is mono or only one channel of a stereo set is out, then check for bad connections to the loudspeaker. Test the loudspeaker by disconnecting one of the wires (with the power off!) and measuring its resistance with an ohmmeter (it should be less than 100 ohms - probably less than 8 ohms). Or momentarily touch a 1.5 volt battery to the speaker terminals - you should get a click or pop from the speaker.

Next, trace back from the speaker output terminals to the circuit board and look for bad solder connections or a loose or dirty connector.

If these tests do not reveal anything, you probably need a scope (or audio signal tracer) and schematic. Or at least the part number off of the chip. Is the final amp a chip also or just a transistor? Have you tested the transistor? If there is little or no buzz from the speaker, that would indicate a problem fairly near the output. If the tuner/if were bad, I would expect some noise/hum pickup from the low level audio stages. Get the part number off of the chip. If it is in a socket, check the contacts for corrosion or looseness.

U Know basic soldering,have soldering tools and solders?Take ur tv back cover off,resolders the video board the connect to the CRT(tv tube).Also,resolders the CRT yoke connection to the main board,the connection have GREEN,YELLOW,BLUE,RED to one connection's plug to the main board.You do the above ur chances to get colors back are 80-90%.U can tries to reset the tv back to factory setting,by unplug,replug it an hour later,this method 50/50 to get the colors back.

looks like it needs to be demagnetized. Try turning it off, take it out of the socket and leave it 1 day off. If that did not help, you might need to call a specialist to de-magnetize it. Do you have speakers placed next to it? Move them away from you TV.-set.

Check your TV's audio settings and make sure it's not set for SAP (second audio program). You'll probably find it's turned on. On many channels or programs you won't notice anything since the broadcast doesn't include a SAP signal. But if the signal's there, the set switches to that sound channel and you have the trouble you describe.

The problem you might run into is that you often need the original remote to control the audio settings. I don't remember for sure if your Sony model has front-panel menu control. I believe that series does, though. (The remotes included with most TV sets usually have a single button to control SAP, which is often how the settings get changed in the first place. Someone hits the button and doesn't know it.)

Problem resolved, I was able to borrow another Sony remote and made the appropriate adjustments.

this is a pictur tube prublum. but this prublum is fixed
set filament voltage is 4.5v to > 6.0v
check G-2 voltage on crt base and cancting PF replace.
check 200v dc on crt base and replace 10uf/250v capaciter

sounds like bad connection or bad tuner in the tv - have you tried playing a DVD or VCR tape ( if available ) - more info would be needed to help you further -such as - are you on cable, cable box, satelite or antenna and do you hook up to your TV using the a/v or RF(cable) input.
