sound like you have samsungs dlp white spots plague, which just gets worst. samsung are aware of the problem, so you need to get in touch under the warranty.

if the screen is lit then would say the screen driver has gone. check the part number on a search engine to find a replacement when they get old or to hot they can stop displaying or make strange lines and dots every were. .

After changing the lamp, the lamp reset must be done. Refer the user manual for details.

It could be a sign the lamp is nearing the end of its 2000 hour life--another indication is when it turns off do you get blinking lights on front of set or not?

Yes. When the lamp warning comes on the TV goes in forced standby and all the TV functions are disabled. In normal conditions the lamp warning comes when the lamp has exceeded the life hours prescribed for the lamp. The main controller board sends the TV in standby disabling operations and turns on the lamp LED.

About the spare I suggest buying a lamp replacement that already includes housing, not the bulb only. That will make installation easier. RRP of the lamp is about $180. This blue dots problem is due to defective blue lcd and related uv filters/ polarizers in optic block (light engine) and optic block will be replace to fis that issue.
It would be costly fix and an experienced tech is needed to do the job. You can expect $1000 repair cost.

This is becoming an increasingly common issue.

There's a good chance you have failing electrolytic capacitors either in the power section or the inverter section or both. In your case, I would concentrate on the power board.

Any caps in these sections that look bulged at the top, or bulged/leaking at the bottom need to be replaced.
If you repeatedly turn it off and on, eventually it'll probably stay on, but every time you turn it off, the TV will get harder and harder to start up until one day it just won't.
Sometimes you have to do the opposite to start it up and unplug it for some time and then try again.

If you are handy with a soldering iron and can identify the power supply and inverter / FM section for the backlights, an inexpensive handful of capacitors will likely fix you right up.
Match the capacitance on the capacitors. Go over voltage if you can, and still have them fit.
IE - it's not a bad idea to replace a 10V cap with a 16V or 25V or even a 50V, but don't replace a 680uF cap with a 500uF or a 1000uF (unless you are positive it's only doing ripple filtering, and even then, you should go OVER, not under the uF rating).

Most of the caps that go are 10V 1000uF or 3300uF.
