A 5 blink error indicates a bad lamp driver. However a lamp may possibly cause this too. I suggest putting a new lamp in if you have one just to verify the lamp is not the problem. If it still fails with a new lamp then the lamp driver is the problem. This part should be replaced by a Sony authorized servicer. The lamp can be replaced easily by you. The lamp replacement instructions are in the TV's owners manual. Good Luck

Sounds like you need to replace the lamp. The owners manual should show you how to replace the lamp. You can order the lamp through Sony on their website. Good Luck

don't leave it on and have it looked at---most likely is if it uses a lamp that may be the problem but if not it may be in the power supply.

Quick question. When you press the power button, does the unit attempt to power up and you hear a relay click and shuts down to just the blinking light?

You have cable box connection problem

I have seen a bad lamp do that but Sony has a Factory bulletin out on a similar problem caused by a defective thermostat which is located on the top of the lamp housing

the set may or may not have the self check feature--set off with the Sony remote hit display, 5, vol down and power.
